i dont really agree with this. if you have good takedown defense you can be a straight boxer and do extremely well in mma. you just need a little knowledge of what you're getting into in the way of muay thai and jiu jitsu to keep those styles at bay. if you are a solid, talented boxer you can stand up with anyone and more times than not you will win. the problem is dealing with takedowns and guys who can wrestle/roll. its all about being a good boxer and knowing how to defend against the other ****... it doesnt hurt to know how to throw knees and elbows for your inside game too, but its not absolutely necessary.
Like we all don't realise that if Sylvia were smart enough to not try and stand with Mercer, he'd have him submitted in about 30 seconds every time. Tim's a complete idiot.
UFC sucks and they aren't world class athelets. These guys are WWF washouts and ex college wrestlers and local wanna be tough guys with no skills they get a couple of tattoos and mohawks and people think they're badasses. It really shows you how gulliable some people really are who buy into this bull****. If a guy with little to no experience like a 50 year old Mercer is able to dominate a former HW champ of the UFC that easily then you're not worldclass. :dealYou would never see Silva come to boxing and beat an ex HW champ in a boxing match with little to no experience it just wouldn't happen in boxing but can happen in MMA because these guys are bums. I don't ever want to hear again that MMA > boxing. If a guy like a prime Mike Tyson fought in the UFC he would be a terror and beat the **** outta everyone there easily with little or no training.:deal

Tim Sylvia has become the biggest joke in MMA history.He has set the sport back 10 years alone. Well, done. I remember reading about this and expected Sylvia to defeat Mercer early. I seen what Kimbo, a street fighter did to Mercer.
I boxed a few fights professionally but nothing more than six rounds. Alot of MMA guys pretty much stand up and strike a for a whole fight. Chuck dominated for years doing this and I would like to think any decent pro boxer would eat Chuck for breakfast.
