In December of 1981 Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier both had comeback bouts 8 days apart. Frazier fought to a draw in Chicago against Floyd 'Jumbo' Cummings, while Ali lost a decision to Trevor Berbick in the Bahamas. There was actual talk that if the two were successful in their respective comeback bouts, that they would meet for a 4th fight. Who would have won if they did? Which fighter had more, or less, left in the tank?

Frazier did better with Cummings than Ali did with Berbick......... Frazier was rusty and heavy at 229 pounds in late 1981, but not sick like Ali was............. I'd take Frazier over Ali in 1981............... Peace........

Ali looked all right vs Berbick. Frazier was shot vs Cummings. Ali would have won the 4th fight, and I for one am glad it never happened. A 4th Ali vs Frazier fight of old men would have diminished a mostly memorable trilogy.

I agree and would also add that Berbick was a much better opponent than Cummings.
Certainly glad the fight never happened

I thought Ali looked like **** against Berbick in the Bahamas in '81.............. Ali was slurring his speech in the dressing room and bloated at 236 pounds...... Ali had nothing in '81........ Christ, even his jab was a mere slow moving push....... Ali only went 10 rds with Berbick because he still had some defensive tactics in his bag..... Ali's offense sucked the bone......... Cheerio...

I agree with this as well. I am a huge fan of Ali but he wasn´t good against Berbick. I never seen Fraziers comeback fight so I can´t say anything. I´m happy it never happened. Ali and Frazier are two of my favourites all time, they lifted each other to even higher standards, the heavyweight division will never be that good again.
    All the best

I agree with everybody who says that thanks God this fight never happened. It would have been either a shame or a tragedy :nono
