This would have to be the Chavez of the Rosario fight vs Duran of Dejesus III if we want absolute peaks... WOW... maybe in heaven, we can kick back & watch these fantasy fights eh ?
Some posters on here, not me, would make you believe that Duran was superman. Just have a look at the thread titled "No credit - fights where fighters are" and judge for yourself on my 'so called' Duran huggery. :good
Yeah i got this book and it says that Nat Fleischer envisioned a place called Valhalla (which was actually the name i think Vikings [possibly] named their heaven), and there is where all the great fighters enjoy an eternal prime and take each other on, and Nat wanted to go there when he died. He's watching this one right about now i think. Haha
Not a sly dig at myself i hope Really i think you know me well enough by now to know i don't let personal preference get in the way of fantasy fight analysis, a la being biased
Haha, nar just that it was me who debated that point with you that you mentioned! Misunderstanding there sorry mate This content is protected
Its one of the alltime ultimate matchups at the weight...but Duran just has to much 8 times out of 10..He does just about everything better then Chavez. It would be a classic tussle everytime however.
There you go another excuse for duran losing, he wasn't at his best for this fight either. So you were in his camp right, you know how much eh trained for that fight right, or how much weight drained he was right, please he lost in his prime to esteban de jesus. Chavez should clearly have a chance at winning this fight, its a winnable fight for him. I would make duran the favourite, but i sure as hell wouldnt bet on it. The only reason why i'm picking Duran is cuz Chavez never stayed at lightweight long enough to show how truly great he was at that weight.
How Duran went against DeJesus in a non-title bout as a 21 year old is pretty irrelevant IMO. He showed who was the better fight in the two rematches. And in convincing fashion. I mean if people are going to use that fight..then why not use the Lockridge or Laporte fights for Chavez..only months before he moved up to lightweight. At their very best there is no doubt who is the better fight IMO...it might not be by much but is enough to make a prediction for this bout.
Im not saying he was "to young"..but it was the start of his elite career and he was still learning. He was less refined overall then. Age means nothing...you use your eyes. There is no blanket rule for that ****. I mean Wilfredo Benitez was finished at 25 but a guy like Bernard Hopkins was as good as ever at 40. Manny Pacquiao was pre-prime as a 25 year old..he still had improving to do and anyone can see he has. The important point is...Yes he lost to DeJesus but he showed in the rematches who the better fighter was. In these kind of hypotheticals there is no use using a poor performance to prove your point..you use the best form of both fighters to decide.
Prime Duran beats Prime Chavez, no doubts in my mind But I have also no doubts that Chavez would have gone down giving a hell of a fight
I couldnt think of a fight I'd rather see.I pick Duran by a UD. He's quicker, uses angles better, better footwork and better defense.
I see a very close fight, you cant call out chavez based on duran style, so i would still take duran in a very close fight by 1 or 2 points maybe SD in a 12 ROUND BOUT, but if we have this fight at 15 ROUND BOUT i would lean Chavez...
