ok simple question but... if pac is the #1 pfp boxer in teh world to many people why would he need to fight cotto at a catchweight? if he is #1 then he shouldnt have any problem fighting cotto at 147, especially for his belt. i also think that will make pac's legacy that much greater if he meets cotto at 147 in my opinion.
folks cotto weighed in at 146 against clottey and looked healthy....he will make 145 easily, and 144 is his limit i think, anything lower he is weight drained.... i think pac-cotto happens at 144.
Because Pacquiao is a natural lightweight. He just weighed 138 pounds in the Hatton fight. He is the one calling the shots now and he deserves it. 144 to 145 pounds is fair enough. you can't give cotto all the advantage. He's not a natural welterweight in the first place. Pacquiao has already moved up a lot in weight, and you're dumb if you even ask why he wants to fight at a catchweight.
hows that a dumb question? pac cant have everything in his favor. the old school fighters never fought at a catchweight if i remember correctly. that was almost unheard of..
Without catchweight, Cotto is pushing His advantage. With catchweight, the playing field is somehow even. In other words, it will appear that Cotto is trying to take advantage whereas Pac is trying to equalize. You think its fair?
'cos the main purpose of your thread is just to discredit pac and his accomplishments. He's been fighting much bigger guys for a while now, and now that he's the one calling the shots, you're gonna ask why he wants to fight in a catchweight of 144 or 145? It would not be hard for cotto to lose just a pound or two as he only weighed 146 during the clottey fight, while pac will be putting again more pounds to his comfortable weight.
Roach said that after DLH it's 140lbs for them and if anyone wants it they better go there. Their first fight at 140 was Hatton, the top man there and undefeated at the weight. Why the hell would they be scared of Cotto? atsch
Why can't they let them fight at 147. And tie Pacs left hand behind his back. i mean he is p4p 1 right?
It's a question of making an even playing field. The perception of many is that Mosley and to a lesser degree Cotto outweighing Pac by up to 13 lbs would be a huge disadvantage for Pac. So for many, Cotto or Mosley beating Pac @147 would simply be a case of a good big fighter beating a good smaller fighter. But if the fight were @140, again many would attribute a Pac win to weight drain. So for both cases, the winners wouldn't get much props. The idea of the catchweight would be to find a weight where both fighters would have to give up some advantage, in this case Pac would give up some size advantage and either Mosley or Cotto would give up some speed which they would most likely lose at a catchweight. Now here in the boards, it's a mixed bag. There are some Pac haters who insist on calling him a ***** for insisting on a catchweight because they are hoping Pac would lose to a big welter fighting at a comfortable weight. But there are also some Pac fans who want the fight at 147 because they think he's just that good. Others insist a catchweight is a fair compromise. There's usually no convincing anyone who has already made a choice that they are wrong so usually it's moot to argue about it. The reality is that Pac is a jWW and Mosley and Cotto are WWs. So it's practically impossible for them to fight with both fighters being 100% and the playing field still being even (edited). It's sad but it's true. IMO Pac-Mayweather is the best fight since although Pac would be giving up a height and reach advantage, they're both relatively young and most likely still in their prime and they both weigh in around the same at fight night (PBF probably weighing more by 1 to 3 lbs) so it's a pretty even playing field. As for the Cotto and Mosley match-ups, my belief is that no one is forcing them to compromise, so if something can be agreed on, then it's a fair game in my mind.
