Against Wright, Williams fought at 157. So don't tell me that you would not like to see him take Pavlik at middleweight!
It was mooted before Pavlik was taken to school by B-Hop, remember? Do you really think Arum is gonna put Pavlik in with Williams? I'd like to see it but it won't happen. Pavlik is Arum's new cashcow and it's a big risk for little reward.
williams is in a terrible position in general--I think he is the most dangerous guy around at 147-154 (not sure at 160) AND no one outside of boxing knows who he is AND even within boxing-fan circles he isn'tvery well known.
This would be nothing less than a war. No way would Williams stop Pavlik. Kelly has a very very good chin. This would be bombs thrown for 12 rounds, probably with both fighters leaving something in the ring.I'd like to see Pavlik clean 160 first (i.e. beat Abraham) and Paul DOMINATE 154/147 (i.e. Beat Mosely/Martinez) then for these two WARRIORS to get it on (although I understand Kelly is struggling with making 160 now).
Goosen agreed to, and then reneged, on this fight once. Arum was furious. $1.25 million and a title shot when Kelly was going to make $2.5. I guess Goosen wasn't so sure Paul would take Kelly's belt.
i agree w/ you in that i would love to see it too...but... i wouldnt confuse pw's workrate w/ bhop's lateral movement and slickness and overall ability to smother and nullify his opponent's strengths. williams needs to first get comfortable at 160...not only does he need to get comfortable at that weight but also get used being hit by a legit 160lb banger. pw is open to get hit flush, often...bhop is not. right now, pav would eventually walk through anything pw would throw and eventually catch him. If bhop couldnt put him down at 170 hitting him with everything but the ringpost, no way is pav gonna be deterred by anything pw throws. on top of that, no one knows what pw is gonna do when he gets hit flush by pav's right...the same one that has put everyone at 160 down (that he has faced)...will that affect pw's workrate?? i think it def would. in the future, pw should have some 160lb fights under his belt and it may be more competitive
I love to see that match too. Pavlik is big and a strong fightr too. and Williams is not a master boxer like Hopkins, so is a interesting fight.
I heard Pavlik never signed the Mora contract. It's hard to say, but he denied he wouldn't be 'ready' for that fight in June. I think they 'officially' called it a miscommunication.
