Also, you need to understand that Marquez is used to cuts. he's got thin skin it seems. Cotto had blood in his eye from the third round, started catching shots and used the strategy to keep him out of serious harm's way. There are no moral victories when you lose.
So one bad fight makes him decline? Lucky? Cotto timed that punch perfectly.... and of course he didn't look like a beast, Clottey was in his shell all night. Kind of hard to punch threw that.
Cotto looked like he was struggling with a guy with fast hands while coping with a horrendous cut. He kept his composure and kept punching. You can't accurately assess if he's in decline until we see him fighting on fair footing without one eye blinded.
I thought Cotto won the fight by 1 point...tight but clear decision. On the night though, I felt that even though Cotto won by a point, Clottey showed to be the better fighter....that said, Cotto was blind in 1 eye so perhaps it would have been a lot clearer to him if he could see and avoided those right hands.
i had cotto by 1 too, i thought clottey looked like the smarter ring technician that night as well.... before the cut and after the cut, cotto did well in final mins of rounds to steal them
Quit blaming the trainer. Cotto needs to train harder. Santiago didn't just started working with Cotto. He has been training Cotto for at least 3 fights now. Evangelista was there, but he was barely talking to Miguel. Plus, Clottey is a difficult MOFO that can make you look bad anytime. Margarito looked like **** against Clottey too.
Manny must of saw a weakness in Cotto to take the fight. But, the thing is Cotto ain't Oscar, Diaz or Hatton. He is a way better than them. I think Manny will beat him, but, it won't be no walk in the park, that is for sure.
