I agree, look at how he completely outclassed Juan LaPorte, who was considered a pretty good titlist at that time. A lot of people were picking LaPorte to win that fight.

I think Sanchez and Nelson were just plain better, regardless of weight/size.

 

Laporte did his trademark hardlly throw any punches routine against Gomez though.It was one of the worst performances of his career.The few times he did open up he had Gomez looking a bit shaky.

Gomez was a quality fighter he could do it all one of the most well rounded boxers I've seen not to mention one of the best arsenals as well. He was perfect for 122 while for some fighters weight doesn't seem to affect them much while some a few pounds can make a huge difference Gomez was the latter. A lot of great performances most of which are mentioned but also against Rocky Lockridge although I though Rocky should have got the nod Wilfredo did very well against a bigger opponent while past his best and two weight classes above his ideal weight.

 

I think Juan's stunning single shot starching of Lockridge may have been the most detrimental success of his career. After that, it often appeared to me as though he was looking to draw subsequent opponents into the same kind of one punch trap, and he lost a lot of decisions he might have won had his kayo of Lockridge been a protracted war of attrition instead.
