Like Oscar's team? Money, not that their teams okay it, is the reason. I believe it is okay to have the belt on the line if Cotto is allowed to come in at 147. 143 and 145 is still WW, but they know it will hurt Cotto to lose those extra pounds.

Yes. If Manny is risking his spot, He defo should be at least given a paper belt if he wins.
(Tho like I have said before, 147lbs or nothing....BUt money will talk)

The WW limit is 147. Cotto was 146 put still fought for his title against Clottey. You don't have to be exactly 147 pounds. The fighters agree to fight on a catch weight but this catch weight is inside the WW limite so it's logical that it can be for the title.

there is no such thing as voluntary. in the case of cotto, if he agrees to fight pac at a catchweight, its because he is also certain that he can handle the catchweight limit. it becomes literally contractual. wanting a welterweight title is not the point, it is incidental and proper because both fighters are in the weight limit, in this case, the welterweight, and one is holding a title.

i don't even think pac wants a welterweight title. he just wants to fight the big names. he wants floyd more than cotto and floyd has no current belt. cotto wants pac more than pac wants cotto so he must concede some to get a fight with a smaller man who is the draw. it just happens that cotto is an alphabet title holder so the belt could be put on the line for additional motivation and incentive.

I believe he meant like Leonit just posted, he trained and makes 146 or possibly 145. If he goes down to 143, I really believe he will be in trouble. Yes, of course he will and his team will tell you he can make the weight, but will it be healthy? The money and the right to call yourself P4P is what is calling him not certainty.

I wasn't referring to you, I just happened to say it in your thread. But there have been plenty of posters who constantly complain about it and quite frankly, it's getting sickening. These guys will agree somewhere in the middle, something THEY BOTH feel comfortable with. It's just hilarious that people who aren't exactly nutritionist have such strong opninions who how one will perform.

cotto weight 146 on clottey fight. if they agreed on 145 vs pac, will you think that cotto will not be healthy?

Listen, I'd prefer for this showdown to be at 147 just to avoid all the weight draining excuses should Pac be able to pull this off. But are you seriously saying that Cotto will be a corpse if it's at 145 after seeing him at 146 vs Clottey?

If PAC and Cotto fight at a Catch weight any Cotto doesn't want to give up his WW title then PAC shouldn't have to give up his either...Meaning the Jr WW or the P4P Title. It goes both ways. They are both champions and they are meeting in the middle so why NOT put up the GOLD. Makes perfect sense.

This should be a title match .. A lot of people get confused with 147 being the only weight for welter
