Good perspective! Some i.e. Cotto, don't come in or make weight at 147 on the dot. 146, 145, 144 or 147. It happens.

Well, the rule is "Not more than 147lbs." If Cotto or Manny come to the weight in @ 145 lbs that is their business. But if he want the belt to be in the line they should go by the rules and not put any limitations on Cotto. If they do, then is not welterweight rules. If Cotto comes at 145lbs because he wants to, its very different than to obligate him to make that weight.

oK so I've read some of the posts here and agree that Cotto's belt would be ok to be put on the line if Pac comes within the WW limit. I however don't necessarily agree with having Cotto come down too much weight but that is another issue on it's own.

It's very funny how now the challengers make the rules, or try to. It's all about the cash

At the same time.....PAC will be obligated to do the same. Catch weights doesn't rule out fighting for titles...Catch weights are in place to "even" things out in the ring when it comes to fighters from two seperate weight classes trying to agree on "Fair" fighting conditions for the fighters involved who happen to been different, weights, sizes and phyical demensions.

I understand your point. If its for the WW title on the surface it looks as if PAC is the challenger....but that is REALLY not the case. It wasn't the case when the "challenger" in PAC was facing Ricky hatton for his Jr WW crown either. The fact is Cotto, Shane, Floyd and Ricky were looking at fighting for the BIG PRIZE! Which is obvious...PAC's P4P title.

The belt shouldn't matter at all.... It's the quality of the fights that people should focus on and Cotto-Pacquiao brings it to the table !!

It's not that I don't think that he will be healthy but honestly if those couple of pounds don't make a difference then why not just have the fight at 147? I completly understand that 147 is just the limit and that you can weigh anything you want as long as it's 147 or lower what I don't like is when the contract stipulates that you may not weigh it.

I'd still love to see the fight but to be fair I think it should be at 147 or a non title fight.

Well, the prize is the pay day. There is not such a thing as P4P title. Everybody has a different opinion of who the P4P best fighter is. Most now say Manny is the P4P. I think he might as well be. But a victory over Hatton or an almost dead DLH should not be indication for P4P. Because if we do, then I will have to place Luis Collazo at least TOP10. Since I really think he kicked Hatton's ass

The reason the belt/title matters a lot in this fight is because this will make Pac the only boxer in history to win titles in 7 weight divisions should he defeat Cotto.

You can't put a $ sign on history.

if pac want's to do that history, he can fight berto at 147 and get the belt much easier than fighting cotto at 144/145 catchweight.

Its not Cotto on this matter, Its Pac. Pac weighs 138 against Hatton. 148 on fight night. Right there you can see the distinct advantage for Cotto if the fight is at 147. I always say this. At 147, Cotto will appear He is pushing his advantage. Pac is trying to equalize to make it competitive pound for pound. At this point of time, Pac is an attractive fight for Cotto more than Cotto is for Pac. Pac makes concession on weight, the other party should reciprocate. Catchweight is fair and as uve stated, if it doesnt make a difference, then make the fight on a weight fair to both parties. Us boxing fans would like to witness such a megafight.

In reality there isn't a "P4P" title. You're correct. But for fighters, that "mythical" P4P title means alot to them. That's why they always talk about it and always push to get on the list that in reality....our reality doesn't really exsist.

There are a few who have some disparitiy on who they consider the best P4P but for the most part everyone is in agreement who are anybody in the world of boxing. PAC! Some say Floyd but between the two there are few who question these two guys are the top of the list.

One thing for sure is no one gets on the list for "loosing" or even coming close to winning against a P4P fighter that includes Collazo. I honestly thought Luis won myself but it was a very close fight and in no way a robbery.....plus, Rick is not a great 147 lbs fighter. And rarely made the P4P list himself maybe breaking into the 10th spot on some lists.
