Nicolai Valuev vs. Primo Carnera

Carnera by decision.

MUCH better boxer,when he came in America he really improved his skills,was a fast guy for his size,decent power,good jab and fought the much better opposition.

 

Carnera. Valuev is ****.

 

The only chin Valuev is cracking, even given his gargantuan size, is that of der kinder egg.

I have to go with Carnera, the gentle giant. I don't know if he can stop Valuev though, who has a pretty good chin.

 

My worry would be that the fight was scored a draw and we'd have to watch a rematch.

 

If it's for the WBA title, you know this would happen. The ringside interview with Ruiz angling for the winner would also be painful.

 

Carnera was like the size of Wlad pretty much, 6'6 260 or so. Carnera had the worst boxing skills of any Heavyweight champ in the history of boxing. Sharkey took a dive to make him champ, which costed Carnera almost his whole purse for that fight.

When Carnera fought Max Baer, the mob couldn't fix this fight, it was all on him to win or lose. The fight itself wasn't pretty, but Baer was clearly the better fighter that night. I think he knocked down Carnera 10 or 11 times before the fight was stopped. And for being a championship wrestler and outweighing his oppenent by like 50 pounds, Baer even out-wrestled him that night, throwing Carnera around the ring in the later rounds.

Valuev may suck, but Carnera is by far worse than him in every aspect of the fight game imo.

 

I disagree.
Valuev definetely has worse boxing skills than Carnera IMO and that shot that put Sharkey away would have blasted anyone.It was flush and Carnera put leverage on it.

 

Carnera, Valuev lost to an old Donald and a 46 yr old Holyfield

 

Ticket sales would top a couple dozen for this potential barn burner.

 

I just watched Baer vs Carnera last night (it was on tv).
This is a tough call, Carnera seems to be a better boxer than Valuev; but, he sure did fall down a lot. I know Baer was a pretty murderous puncher, but still 11 knock downs in a fight!
Many of Carnera's other fights are hard to gauge because he was supposedly fighting fixes. I mean, Valuev's fights are fixes too, but the fighters are not in on it, just the judges.
If I had to pick , I think Valuev at his best stops Carnera. I say "at his best" because Valuev seemes to be really deteriorating in there. A few fights ago he seemed bad, but he's getting worse.

 

Im no boxing historian or that, but I have seen a decent amount of Carnera's fights. He reminds you of Vitali (In the way that he holds his hands so low, and leans back to avoid punches). His chin is extremely weak for a man his size, and would be beat by all if not most of the top 20 fighters today.

Im just curious to all those who think Carnera would beat Valuev, what does Carnera do better than Valuev?
