Palominos best wins came against average competition. If he never beat anyone worth mentioning what makes him worth mentioning?

If a great fighter right now beat Luis Collazo, Verno Philips and Roman Karmazin and that was it, he wouldnt be known as a great fighter. Fighters are judged by their competition.

 

Again, i said if a fighter beat them three then he would be a world class fighter, that is the Palomino parallel here, not the Duran parallel, Duran is the guy who beats that man. Go back over our conversation if you must to think about what we debated, do i really have to carry on with this?

 

And by the way, by your reasoning, all fighters are average because if you only beat average guys then you are average, is that what we are opening ourselves up to yes? Well fighters build reputations starting at the bottom, so if you are only on the level of what you beat then you never get off the ground.

its hard to make a young person understand the cycles that these eras go through. cotto, for example, could turn out to be the carlos palomino in pacs or floyds story and 30 years down the road some young kid is saying "well who the hell did cotto beat? an old mosely?"

Yeah but Duran had a ****ing chin. AFter that, it'd be quite easy to box a guy like Barkley. I wouldnt call Casamayor a lightweight like Duran was a lightweight. Duran was built like a tank.
