Jose Luis castillo stops duran :scaredas::scaredas: Please tell me your on the wind up or that you at least meant chavez.
Never saw a boxing match till Pac came on the scene?? Fail. I went to see Hamed and Benn fight in the early-mid 90s. And someone who only took up the sport 10 minutes ago would still know that JL Castillo would not stop Roberto Duran. You colossal ******.
Stick to Floyd threads, as that's one of the most lamentable posts in history. Judging Duran solely on the basis of the Fab Four fights is laughable, because he had already had one of the most dominant and brilliant single division reigns in boxing history before those fights even came about. And he still won the middleweight title after all the Fab Four fights that mattered had happened. The post below sums up this debate perfectly:
Hell yeah. When I first heard of Duran my knowledge of him was limited to his second sugar ray leonard fight and his destruction at the hands of Hearns. I told my dad Duran was nothing special... the old man nearly had heart attack and made me watch most of Duran's lightweight rein before I was even born. Problem solved :good
Problem with people that think that Duran is a top 5 p4p atg is you cant say why...Who did he beat to get there...All the DURAN is the greatest people can say is he beat Leonard..ONCE IN THREE Fights....aND THE BOTTOM LINE IS STILL THE WAS STILL 1-5 VS THE TOP 50 FIGHTERS THAT HE FACED...1 AND ****ING 5. If that was any other fighter we wouldnt even be talking about him right now...Duran won some hearts during his reign as the lightweight champion, but even that wasnt that impressive, a reign in which Duran didnt face a single fighter that was ranked in rings top 100. Look man Im not saying that Duran isnt a great fighter and an all time great, what Im saying is that Duran is over rated because so many think of hims as a top 5 all time level fighter. His resume doesnt warrant that, top 10 to 15 but not top 5...That is why he is over rated.
good god.....duran overated i thought the general forum had reached its lowest ebb a couple of weeks ago. i was wrong
I can also respect this opinion. Placing anyone top 5 is a pretty tricky thing. The only thing that bugs me is people judge him due to his fights over his weight limit and completely dismiss him outright.
an answer to whether he is overated can be provided by watching duran v esteban de jesus, ken buchanan, lou bizzaro, carlos palomino, ray leonard 1, pipino cuevas, davy moore, marvin hagler ( natural lightweight taking on middleweight atg), and iran barkley
thats one of the dumbest things ive ever heard here and that is saying alot only a ******ed *** like you would come out with **** like that
Duran is great he beat some of the greatest lets not make excuses. Boxing people when they discuss greatness usually neglects to give latino fighters their proper respect. Underrated latino fighters: Napoles, JC Chavez, Ricardo Lopez, Miguel Canto. Even Tito does not get fair shake. I say that Chavez is underrated becuase whenever atg are discussed at 130-140 he hardly is ever mentioned. Duran had a great chin, power, and the ability to apply pressure. Just becuase he does not rely on conventional tactics does not meanhe was not great. He fought according to his talent.
And you stick to Pac theards you self-righteous SOB. Duran wasn't a better fighter than SRL period he never beat the caliber fighters that SRL did and he quit against him. You Duran apologist can argue till you're blue in the face but it won't change it.:hi: He was still KTFO against Hearns lost to Hagler and others. He was an ATG arguably the best LW ever but he wasn't better than SRL and his record against him and his peers proves it.:deal
