He took the fight at the last moment. Got busted up real good, Chavalo style. He was in with one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time. Kept coming back..landing a good left hook end of rd.7? He didn't quit, he was ready for rd.10 even with a horrendous cut. Question: Who else beats other than Wlad and Vitali? You gotta' like this guy:good
He tried all fight long. He didnt walk around the outside like ibragimov. I give him full credit for a game performance. Wlads defense tonight was just spot on. Lateral movement, tied up at the right time, stepping out of range and controllign distance with the jab.
Ruslan Chagiev was FIRST time first downw te caree, ?! got hit right in china, flashg kd.. he toio and ake monster righter hands stayed non his feet 9 rounds...piiple shol realise tha maybe, mymaybe Wlad i just sogood..:|deal:bart
Rusty Chagaev was game but over-matched............. Chagaev came to fight.......... He is better than Sultan Ibragimov................ Chagaev deserves respect............. However, will Chagaev ever fight again??? Chagaev's career has JACKED OFF over the last few yrs....... MR.BILL
Well he deserves credit for coming in on short notice...and he deserves credit for taking the fight when he could've sat on his WBA throne and waited forever. He'll probably go back into the WBA triangle of hell and give us more classic sequels against Valuev and Ruiz.
It's funny how fickle boxing fans are. Guys like Freitas, Duran, Oscar, Guerrero - reviled by some after a single no-mas. I'm not arguing that quitting is terribly noble, but when you're hopelessly behind and don't physically have any fight left in you and are mature and unfettered by foolish pride enough to realize it - why not salvage your health (and, in a best-for-everybody scenario, give the opponent a deserved stoppage victory for being so dominant despite your pesky refusal to actually go down for the count)? Three rounds earlier people were reverently musing on Chag's chin. Like a dozen posts saying what a tough dude he is. As soon as it's over - the floodgates open and it's the scarlet letter q...."Quitter!!!! :fire" Boxing fans can be ****ing ******ed. Ruslan did nothing exceptionally well tonight, especially after the third or fourth round - but a lot of guys would've quit well before 27 minutes of such punishment (assuming they were still conscious). The stigma placed on fighter-initiated (or non-contested) stoppages, and the hysterical backlash against them, is pathetic.
I will not give Ruslan credit. I said he was suckish before this fight, and I continue to think he is suckish. Nothing he did in this loss changes my mind. Maybe he should have thought about throwing punches, and then I'd consider giving him some credit. I'd rather see a guy get stoped in two rounds trying real hard then a guy go 9 rounds and just eat jabs and rights the whole time.
Yeah tell me about it. I think there's a certain level of blood thirst that you really shouldn't cross. Boxing fans cross it constantly.
Yes. It was clear that Chagaev made every attempt to get inside, so let's not start the *he was a punching bag* bull****. As BJ FLores stated, the jab and right hands constantly landing from Wlad are what prevented Chagaev from being effective, even though he certainly tried like hell to pressure Wlad and get inside. With his head and waste movement and trying to come forward, Chag made every effort, most certainly.. Good to hear an announcer state that, instead of saying some bull**** like *he's just standing there getting hit and is not even trying*.
