Chagaev wouldn't be in the top ten of Lewis' all time wins list. He's #1 on Wlad's

The 2002 tyson was more than 10 yrs removed from his prime..so its debatable. I mean danny williams beat him 2 fights later. Tyson was long gone.

You are incorrect...woefully so.

Aside from Holyfield, Tyson, Vitali, Ruddock and possibly McCall, Chagaev would rate no worse than a 50% chance against the best of the rest of Lewis's opponents.

Mercer, Rahman, Golota, Bruno, Tua, Tucker and Morrison all had weaknesses that would make them beatable for Chagaev. In fact, I'd rate Chagaev a slight favorite against most of these guys.

 

It was the ONLY fight in his career where Klitschko wasn't the favorite coming in. Yes, his confidence was **** back then. I was in Atlantic City for that fight and heard most people around just talking how Peter was gonna walk through him and knock him out. Klitschko was basically written off at that point and Peter was supposedly going to put a nail in his coffin. As for Wlad panicking, I saw that only when Peter knocked him down. The rest of the fight was target practice. At least Chagaev was slipping some punches, Peter was blocking everything with his face.

 

Chagaev probably would've beat half the guys on that list, to be fair.

 

I think chagaev is clearly better than grant, he would stop grant np. Golota can never be on any list. Morrison and chagaev would have been a good fight. Chagaev prob stops him late.

 

Peter made him panic in the 3rd and in the 10th round for a fact. Wlad did not look all that impressive in that fight, he looked fragile and scared at times during that fight. Something Chagaev never even came close to doing, Peter probably landed 3 times more punches than Chagaev as well, lasted longer, never went down, and only lost by 3 points on all three of the judges scorecards. Chagaev didn't even get close to being as effective as Peter was that night.

 

yes peter was a beast that night. he fought with fire but he and brewster are the only ones who have shown the ability to walk through wlad's power. You and I both know you can't box and play chess with wlad, he will systematically beat the **** out of you. You gotta rush him and deliver huge power shots to give yourself even a slight chance. I feel Wlad has improved his control of distance, stamina and confidence since the Peter fight but that's the only way you can beat him. The only guy I could see outbox Wlad would be Lennox.

 

Chagaev would WITHOUT A DOUBT beat Ruddock as well. Ruddock never amounted to much. Just another hyped up fighter who wasn't as good as he was made out to be. I also don't see Oliver McCall beating Chagaev. I will go with Vitali..... but we have to remember that we are talking about the same Tyson who turned around and was knocked out by Danny Williams. Chagaev would DEFINITELY have beat that Tyson. I would give Chagaev quite a chance against the 37 year old Holyfield that Lewis beat as well.

Of course prime Tyson and Holyfield would beat Chagaev... but those two were definitely NOT prime fighters when Lewis beat them.

 

:good Agreed, I couldn't of said it better myself. Though I do believe Vitali, Ali, and Holmes would all have a 50/50 chance of outboxing Wlad in their primes, just my opinion though.

 

I'm not joining this thread to bash Wlad (an impressive win tonight) but even the 1999 version of Holyfield that Lewis beat would school Chagaev in my opinion.

 

Chagaev was not a a impressive name for Wlad's record, but the style of his victory was impressive

 

Chagaev is a better win than glass chin Morrison................

 

At least half if not 2/3rds.
