David Haye has delivered a tough talking response to IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko's claim he would knock him out.
Former undisputed cruiserweight champion Haye had been scheduled to take on the 33-year-old Ukrainian in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on Saturday night before a back injury forced the Briton to pull out.
Klitschko delivered a professional display at distance to dispose of the previously undefeated replacement Ruslan Chagaev and then reacted angrily when posed questions about a future bout with Haye.
A contest with mandatory WBO challenger Alexander Povetkin looks set to be Klitschko's next move in September, and the outspoken Haye has conceded he may have to fight older brother and WBC champion Vitali first, while he waits for Wladimir to free his schedule again.
"Wladimir sold 65,000 tickets off the back of the fact he was going to fight me. None of his fights prior to that have come anywhere close to that because he's a boring, un-entertaining fighter," Haye told Sky Sports News.
"It's just unfortunate that I got the injury in training but he just went out and did his usual thing. For me, he's Wladimir the cure for insomnia Klitschko. He couldn't be more boring.
"He had the guy beat from round one, but he let it go on for nine rounds. He didn't knock the guy out, the guy retired in his corner and it's that sort of performance, which just shows why he hasn't got a very big fan base.
"For me, to be the number one in the world you've got to beat both the Klitschko brothers. His brother hasn't got any obligations and he's free in September so we'll see if that's a possibility.
"If it's Wladimir first or Vitali first it doesn't bother me. I've got to fight both of them anyway so I don't care which one comes first."
Haye has no doubt he has what it takes to overcome Wladimir, despite the Ukrainian's 53-3 record.
"He'll get paid two or three times more for fighting me than fighting any other fighter on the planet so it doesn't make sense for him to fight anyone else unless he genuinely doesn't want to fight me," Haye added.
"The fight makes sense once I'm healthy and I guarantee it'll be much more exciting than that snoozefest that he put us through last night.
"Everybody that fights him has no head movement and no clue, they don't move their feet and they're just sitting ducks.
"Anyone who watches me knows I don't go out there and get hit by silly shots I go out and throw angles. I throw punches in clusters and I've got a clue about how to fight. I was the undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world and I was that for a reason.
"He's a lot bigger than me but he's a hell of a lot slower. He looks petrified whenever anyone considers throwing a punch at him - he runs across the ring, arms out, looking terrified.
"Nobody is really interested in seeing him fight they just want to see me fight, so me and him is the biggest fight out there. Lets make it happen.":patsch

    Well said Haye

Unfortunately Wlad will have another borefest with Povetkin before facing you so you will have to take the tougher brother Vitali first which you have far less chance against.

    Haye is not wrong.
I was all for Haye going right after Klitschko; but now, I think he should take another fight first. He's been off a while now. I want to make sure his injury is all healed up, and I don't want to hear any lingering excuses. So if he fights some contenders first, we'll know he's as ready as ever for the Kltschkos.

Good stuff, Haye. Nice to see after Klitschko - Chagaev he is still as confident as ever.

Haye just needs to shut up, especially now after his 'back injury'.
I know it's hard for him to understand, but Haye had little to do with the ticket sales of the fight. Nobody knew Haye in Germany. The reason Klitschko never had such a big crowd is mainly due to fact that he never fought in a stadium with so many cheap seats. Plus, a lot of tickets were probably bought by Schalke fans because they wouldn't want to miss a big event in 'their' stadium.

Talk is cheap - you gotta have a chin to back it up. Haye had trouble taking punches from lower weight guys. Any decent HW will knock him out. He would have been out cold from the punch that Wlad landed on Chagaev in the second round last night

It has to happen. I hope Wlad dumps the ABC titles now he's Ring champ but I very much doubt he will. He just loves those shiny baubles and will fight any mandatory dished out just to hang on to them.

Well said David, you at least have the personality the Heavyweight division needs. I think if Haye beats Vitali or Wlad, he will become a big star throughout the world. He got the personality, exciting fighting style, and looks to make people take notice. I wish the man the best of luck, he would make for an enertaining champ.

Yep... David Haye doing what he does best. Talkinga a lot of **** to the media. How impressive.

I also love how David Haye... who couldn't secure a venue in his own backyard, and can't sell out small arena's in his hometown... tries to act like he is a bigger draw than Wlad.:rofl Wlad always sells out all of his fights. He could have put himself vs Chagaev in that same stadium from the get go and sold just as many tickets. Sure wasn't David Haye fans out there cheering for Klitschko last night.

I hope Haye has a fight in the interim and looks sensational in knocking lumps out of a decent heavyweight.

I don't disagree with anything Haye said - but it seems to me that he's trying to draw Wlad directly into fighting him so he can avoid Vitali for the time being. He should be talking directly to Vitlai now as there is a much greater chance for the two to fight this Fall.

Good, I hope Wlad fights all the mandatories he has to. Haye hasn't done **** to deserve a title shot anyway. He wanted to leapfrog all the deserving contenders, because he knows if he had to fight a few of those guys, his glass jaw would get exposed.

I see what your saying. Though why go after the tougher brother with less belts? He would have a much better chance of beating Wlad, whose chin is still ripe for the taking.

    Punisher....

I see that you are still holding the title for the worst, most uninformed poster in the General Forum. Congrats.
