I read a thread where two posters were talking about this matchup and who would beat who. Technically Varga's prime was at 154 and Cotto is a small welter, but given that I still think Vargas skills were a bit better and power. Their chins were perhaps the same although Vargas had a solid chin til it was cracked by Chito Trinidad. This fight for me is a tough one to call lets say at 150. Was trinidads power too much? Or is Cottos body attack too devastating for the Ferocious one?

Vargas by utter destruction. this isan unfair fight not that cotto is no good but vargas is much bigger not by weight but by sheer size. vargas was a very big 154lber.

Vargas. He was bigger and more skilled than Cotto.

Vargas at his best would probably stop Cotto. He could slug with you, he could outbox you, he was a fantastic fighter. Vargas was far bigger than Cotto and that would make the difference. Vargas was a quality finisher and once he had you hurt he could take you out.

Cotto by late stoppage,Vargas never did well against other fighters who can bang as hard as he can,and had a questionable chin,I see Cotto stoping him possibly 9th,10 round,if Dela hoya can stop him, then Cotto can do it as well, probably even worse

What are you talking about... DLH in his prime stops Cotto within 8 rds. Vargas at least went 11.

Anyway, at 154 Vargas probably wins a decision over Cotto.

What is it with people hating on current fighters and glorifying last generation fighters...

Cotto was far better in skill than Vargas. @ 150 Vargas wouldnt be as imposing as many would think.

I will say that I think it would be a war that Cotto would see the finish line with a W, Vargas wouldnt be able to deal with the versatile attack. He's a bit stationary at times and his chin isnt incredible so I think Cotto pulls out the stoppage or close but clear UD.

COTTO, and after that, Vargas comes out of the closet saying he's got some kind of fetishism for PR boxers!
