Outside of Hatton, who Pac already koed, and JMM, who Pac already has faced twice and is booked anyways, there are no big name big money fights at 140 which is the weight division that Pac belongs at. He clearly wants the big fight(s) now that he's on the verge of retirement and those type of fights can only realistically be made with 147 lb fighters. Roach knows Pac's limits and won't push the envelope which is why he's so adamant about securing catch weight fights against the bigger and stronger opposition. Sure resume and history are important but not at the expense of suffering and embaracing ko defeat by an opponent who might outweight Pac by 10-15 lbs on fight night.
dummy!! Chico had 1 fight at 135 and came down to fight Mayweather, plus Mayweather tried to get that fight for a unfication but didnt happen.
Dummy huh. Your clearly the slow one. I simply stated a fact in response to MacmanJr.'s post. The circumstances of Chico's move down is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is he did to appease the negotiation between himself and Mayweather. :deal
u dont need to explain to me who is the bigger name and who wants the fight with who..im not some novice fan...i understand the pac fight is now the equivalent of the golden ticket i guess you just dont agree with my point of view...and thats fine the reality is...when pac was fighting JMM and making relative peanuts for it...the casual fans...barely noticed...pac used the 140-147 weights to catapult his status and earning power....the even slightly less than casual fan could tell you who shane, oscar, and hatton were most likely if you mentioned their names two years ago...they probably couldnt have indentified pac....if hes going to fight a legit 147 champ....fight at 147...if you want to stipulate how much weight cotto can gain in between the weigh in and the fight...thats fine with me....pac can clearly handle fighting at 147 without losing anything....his team is just afraid of putting his earning potential and stardom on the line against an actual bull at 147
My Problem with this is ONE other fighter would get a pass on making all these weight demands...When fighters make demands like this they get bashed but for some reason Pac is allowed to get away with it from the fans. We saw what coming down too much in weight did to Oscar. Pac fans are fine with him fighting zombies as long as he can win...Its not leveling the playing field its giving Pac a huge advantage because he is fighting weakened fighters. He should either fight at 147 or 140 and stop with all the catchweight bull. And KEEP IN MIND none of these fighters Floyd, Cotto, or Mosely started the talks of them fighting Pac it was Arum and Roach that started all this crap, so no they dont need to take heat for basically saying they would fight the guy AFTER thier names were brought into the whole thing.
I have a feeling that it will be a combination of both...The Rumors were that Roach wouldnt allow Pac to fight Oscar if he rehydated above 155, which I wasnt sure about before this talk of it with Cotto, now I do believe that it was a agreed upon term. My thing is what happens if Pac fights Cotto and somehow won, and in doing so picks up cotto's belt. Would they then demand that WELTERWEIGHTS come down and fight Pac and less then the limit??? Were does it stop??? If Pac dont want to fight Welterweight he dont have to, but if he is going to fight them then he needs to fight them at the limit. Its the first time that I can recall were a fighter that is fighting one weight south is always demanding a catchweight fight...Jones didnt demand a catchweight fighting Toney, Mayweather didnt demand a catchweight fighting Oscar, nor did Shane. I dont like the way that this catchweight sh*t is going. First off we already have too many weight classes and now you have guys trying to make more weights..
This catchwt business is catching people's attention 'coz of Pacquiao-DLH and JMM-PBF. As these are NON-TITLE non-championship fights, there is nothing to bother. It's just a matter of 2 great fighters (having different physical frames) agreeing to fight on a level playing field, and see who is better. Without the handicapping, these fights won't happen.
Lol....be easy brah. You all antsy like Pac and Roach made the idea of the catch weight up. First, Pav is a 160 or 168 pound fighter, Paul and Nard are legit Middle weights or super Middle weights respectively. Some can argue Nard is now a legit Light heavy. So you "catch weights" of welter or super feather weights while comical are nothing more than that. Cotto use to be a 140 pound fighter, Shane use to fight at 135. They both now fight a 147. So if they fight at 144 or 145 it won't be anything like a PW fighting at 135 or a Kelly or Nard fighting at 147 where they have never even thought of before let alone actually making a fight at that weight. Look...If Cotto and Shane can't make the catch weight to make the fight with Pac.....that is unfortunenate, but fans gotta respect it. But don't try and place blame on Pac and his team! Its not Pac calling out Cotto or Shane. They are the ones calling out the Jr WW King pin. Who just so happens to be the P4P king pin as well. They want to make it happen with the smaller man! So why should the smaller man who has been doing nothing but moving up in weight, fighting bigger men for the last 3 years move up again to face larger men who want to take his crown and status as the best in boxing, P4P? If you really think about this crazy situation....I mean REALLY think about it. Pac is the one bending over backwards to try to make this fight happen. He could have said "Shane, Cotto...You want me? Come fight me at 140 as the Jr WW champ and P4P King"! Not say "Ok....I'm already the smaller man but I'm about the challenge and test so let's make it fair for all of us. Let's meet in the middle." People are FAR too critical of Pac and Roach for trying to make it a fair fight....If you can even call it that. I mean this is Pac, looking to fight the likes of Floyd, Shane and Cotto! Who would of thunk it 3 years ago or even 2 years ago? If you did, I bet no one would have let that thought materialize into words unless you are already crazy or known for your off the wall comments like a Larry Merchant. When he mentioned Pac for DLH or Hatton for Pac he was once again labled as "bat****". If Cotto can't make 144 or 45 to meet Pac, when he came into the Josh fight at 146 then he must not really want it with Pac the way Shane does and to be honest I never thought Cotto would be the fighter that Shane and Pac were anyway. You challenge the champ you get at him on his terms...if his terms are "truly" unfair then take a pass. But the request for a catch weight are more than fair for everyone, Including Manny.
LOL! You can believe whatever you want but it won't make it true homie. Pac wasn't 9 pounds heavier than JMM in the rematch on fight night. Someone lied to you.
Bro....you are only looking at this situation from one side of the spectrum. Of course you'll have a warpped outlook on the fight if you only choose to take one side in to consideration. PAC is at a handicap moreso than Floyd, Cotto or Shane even at 140. Lets be real....PAC is not really a WW or Jr WW. At his best he's a legit 135 or 130 pound fighter who is seeking challenges that were seemingly too big for consideration until he shut people up by crushing odds with performances in the ring. Now PAC has unreal or unfair expectation from many in the boxing world....mostly fans of fighters who don't want to see PAC upset. Real talk!
