He di not make a sweeping genralization. He made a statement based on his own observations. And honestly, I have to agree. Most of the people who criticize him are of another race. Let us not be fooled. Boxing, from a fans point of view, is a very racist and nationalistic sport. Extremely. It has always had the history of such, in the U.S. I personally don't see anything wrong with rooting for the guy that looks like you and has your same culture, etc. I just hate that people try to act like they can't admit it.
at the end of the day, you dont know any of these fighters personally. even the guys who think are nice guys in boxing, could be complete assholes behind close doors, you dont know. the most sensiable to judge a fighter, is by who they fight and how they fight since that their occupation, fighters.
For the record I respect Mayweather's talent and think one this generations greatest boxers if not the greatest, I however can't stand him outside of the ring for the following reasons: “They talk about Floyd Mayweather duckin’ and dodgin’ opponents. Listen. I’m trying to fight the number one guy. If the number one guy can’t fight, then I’m fightin’ the number two guy. If I can’t fight number two, I’m fighting number three.” “I mean, the fight with Henry Bruseles – somebody had to give him a chance. You know, everybody gives, I mean, how will we ever know how good a person is till you give them a chance? Somebody had to give him that chance. So I gave him that chance.” “I don’t know who (Margarito) is.” “Boxing won’t retire me, I will retire from boxing.” “Margarito would be easy work. If Bob shows me the money, I’ll fight anybody anywhere. If it makes dollars it makes sense.” “(Margarito is) levels below me. I’ll punish him for being on the level he is. I’ll punish him for disrespecting my team.” “Maybe I can fight Margarito next – if I pick his name out of the hat.” “Who has Margarito beaten to deserve a shot at me? Once he beat two or three big names then we’ll fight.” “Me and Margarito, we’re not fighting to prove to the boxing fans who the best is.” “Who is Margarito? He don’t bring **** to the table.” “I don’t duck or dodge anybody.” “Like I said before I beat Margarito’s ass any day of the week. If this is the fight the fans want to see so be it. Margarito don’t dictate what I do. Don’t no one know who Margarito is.” “I’m with Goossen-Tutor and me and Dan’s going to take it to the next level. I mean he’s, I mean, man, that’s the real promoter.” “My team calls all the shots out of the ring, I call them in the ring.” “I have the best promoter out there in Bob Arum.” “Bob Arum is the greatest promoter in history. I love Bob Arum. I love HBO.” “If I did want to come back, I was going to make, what, $50 million (for the De La Hoya rematch)? You know what, don’t call my phone unless you’ve got $100 million.” “I’m through. Once I tell people I’m through, I’m through. People say, ‘Oh, he retired and came back, after the De La Hoya fight.’ I didn’t retire and come back. I just fought one more fight, against Ricky Hatton. And as soon as I beat him, it was, ‘What about this guy (Cotto)?’ and ‘What about that guy (Margarito)?’ It’s never good enough. Some boxing people weren’t going to be happy until I take a loss, and that’s not ever going to happen. I achieved all I wanted to achieve.” “When I’m 50 or 60, I want to be able to know my kids, and I want them to know me. I want all five senses to be sharp, sharp as a razor. I want to be able to live my life. That’s one thing I’ll say about my father, he gets around real, real good. My mother gets around real, real good. I want to be like that.” “…even a guy like Jim Lampley, he praises Kelly Pavlik — who has won some good fights, he beat Jermain Taylor twice, we have to give him credit for that — but they talk about Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he’s the second coming. Or they go crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I’m a black fighter. Is it racial? Absolutely. They praise white fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters, they never praise.” “But you got to realize this: I’m an A level, I’m an A level opponent, Oscar De La Hoya’s an A level, Floyd Mayweather’s an A level, I mean Margarito is a, he got D level fighters. He had Bob Arum, he got D level fighters. You know without, be honest, without Floyd Mayweather or Oscar De La Hoya, I mean, what is Top Rank, honestly?” “Like I said before, I grabbed boxing fans and asked who is this guy (Margarito) and they didn’t even know who he was.” “I’m here to dominate Marquez. It won’t be an easy task. He’s a tough warrior. And he represents Mexico to the fullest. And I take my hat off to him, there’s nothing but respect. They say to be the best you have to beat the best. And I feel they had Maquez in the dark for a long, long time. And someone has to give him that opportunity. So why not it be me?” “I have more respect for Genaro Hernandez than anybody. Because that was the start of everything. He gave me a chance. I have more respect for Genaro Hernandez than any fighter. Anybody that gives me a chance I have respect for.” “Margarito – he’s an average fighter. Why would I be scared of him?” “You know me I’m running my mouth a lot and I’m looking for a guy to shut me up. If you don’t shut me up I’m going to keep running my mouth. Nobody can beat me, there is no way to beat me.” “I know when someone is tailor-made for me, that I will punish.” “I want to beat the best out there and whoever is considered the top fighters of my era.” “I don’t really want to talk about this guy (Margarito). Because I see things that Bob Arum does that don’t make any sense. He says I’m the best fighter in the business, I’m the best fighter since Muhammad Ali. But then he’s talking about me ducking and dodging a fighter. He kicks me out of his boxing gym, then he wants me to fight his fighter (Margarito). How can you talk about doing future business with me if you’re conducting yourself with disorderly conduct?” “It’s a smart business decision to not fight you now but we will down the road.” (Floyd said this to Margarito’s face while holding his hand, after Margarito confronted him at the Mayorga-De La Hoya press conference in May.) (Judah’s) already beaten. He’s beat mentally. I just have to do the physical part. I beat every fighter mentally before I beat him physically. There is no on stronger than me mentally.” “It’s about me making smart business decisions that’s gonna move me up a notch, move me up levels.” “I’m not in the game for just the money, I’m in the game to be a legend. And give the fans and media all around the world exciting fights.” “(To the media after defeating Carlos Baldomir in Nov.) I love the sport. One more fight and I’m through. I don’t need boxing. I’m not in it for the money. It’s about legacy. I’m rich and I’ve accomplished what I want.” “I just dish out ass whoopin’s.” “From 154 on down I tear everyone’s ass up.” “Mosley will never fight me. I love to fight him. But you know he don’t want a dosage of truth.” “Miguel Cotto is still in that learning process. He’s a good strong fighter but he’s still very green. He’s about two years away. But if he’s fighting Paul Malignaggi you know he’s not ready for the truth. But he’s a good fighter.” “I don’t know who Paul Williams is. But I hear he’s a pretty good young fighter.” Leonard Ellerbe: “Margarito has four losses, why should we fight a guy with four losses?” (A few months later Mayweather signed to fight 35-year-old Carlos Baldomir, who had NINE losses.) “I want to turn non-boxing fans into boxing fans. People don’t know I’ve dominated four weight divisions and currently fight in three different divisions 140, 147 and 154.” “I’m in the sport to be the best who ever lived. I feel I’m the face of boxing.” “I’ll beat the **** out of Manny Pacquiao. He knows that.” “Miguel Cotto is a punching bag. He knows he can’t beat me.” “I’ve been boxing since 1987. A lot of people don’t realize I won a world championship 2 1/2 years after turning pro. And I’ve been world champion ever since.” “I am the face of boxing and without me it’s a dud.” “I never ducked or dodged anybody. I’m in the sport for legacy.” “I approach every fight like it’s my last fight. I want to bring excitement.”
Mexicans root for mexicans, Filipinos root for Filipinos, black people root for black people. I personally think race plays a part in determining who you like and not who you hate. But hey, if you wana put out the race card to explain the hate, it's your choice.
Nah it has nothing to do with Who Floyd fights. That is all bull****....And the proof is people saying that he was scared to fight Gatti, he did and beat the **** out of him then it was cherrypicking, People said once he signed to fight Oscar..NOW we will see what Floyds got, Oscar will beat him, but after the fight it was Floyd cherrypicking...Floyd was scared to fight Hatton but after he did it was cherrypicking. That wont change no matter who floyd fights. As that "I HATE FLOYD" Article that was posted here about a month back said.....Mosley is OLD, Pac is SMALL, Margo got thrashed by Mosley, Cotto isnt THE SAME, and Williams would be weight drained. The haters loved that anti-floyd Article, but so did I...It was the proof that I hve been waiting for from a Floyd hater. What that author did was put all the excuses that they will use when Floyd starts to fight and beat those fighters. As a Lakers fan and a Kobe fan, I have seen those very double standard apply to them and him. Everytime one of the SO_CALLED reasons are disspelled another pops up in its place..All in a effort to hide what is the underling problem...FLAT OUT HATE, no matter what is done there will be a reason not to credit floyd for what he does in the ring.:good
I can say the same thing about wlad klit. WHy dont people like him. His haters are irrational! why are most of the fans of his white? why does i see alot of white guys always cheering him on and not black guys????? They dont understand white euro culture.blah blah blah see how ****ing stupid that sounds?
well the race thing, people are afraid to talk about so you gotta be careful with that topic. mayweather MAIN critisim is the calibur of opponets he fights. thats the main gripe, but being a young black man that does talks alot of **** all while being the best fighter on the planet, dosent help his cause either so he becomes a bigger target for scrutiny
Mexicans and filipinos root for each other because they are from the same country and wins bring pride to whole country. A lot of people in the USA were rooting for Hatton even though Mayweather was the American, has fought for his country in the olympics.
wel you can only soeak for yourself, you cant speak for everybody. hes entitled to his opinion, no matter how wrong he is.
Why did everyone love tyson then? Did they know more about black culture back then? has white america forgotten somthing?
Black culture is not flamboyant. Trash talking has nothing to do with ethnicity. Black folk are decent people, so we should stop saying being an ******* is part of black culture. Ali talked a lot of trash, but his career was fantastic and had a human interest story for the books. Tyson was one hell of a talker, but was a badass that truly entertained. Mosley is well spoken and what's there not to like. Now Floyd on the other hand makes it impossible to like him. So stop complaining that people hate/dislike him, 'cause he doesn't do things to allow people to do so. Maybe that's just the way he wants it, so leave it be. Personally, I'm indifferent to his life story because it's average. Boxer family, middle class upbringing, started in the amateurs then went pro. He tries to talk trash but comes across as "trying hard" (i.e. he's a good small man but i'm a great big man", "who he beat, who he beat"). He bores me. There is nothing special about his style, his life, his career, his extra-curriculars. He is just plain average. Maybe that is why I don't like him= he says he's the best of all time but he just comes across as just an insecure boxer that can not inspire. P.S. He's lucky to have fans like what he has in this forum.
What you just said sounds stupid. People are disliking mayweather for reasons that have nothing to do with his performance in the ring. They talking about his personality (even though they don't know him personally). People dislike Wlad becasue of his style of fighting. If people were disliking Wlad becasue they were talking his personality then it would be similar.
tyson was knocking peple the hell out. and tyson never ducked anybody. the principle matter with mayweather is his opponents. now does race play a role, could be. you cant say you're sure it dosent at all, 100%
Well i personally think the race card shouldnt be pulled out for every small ****ing thing. Its starting to become like the boy who cried wolf. The race card is becoming a joke nowadays. And people like this are the reason why its happening
