I never said he isn't fighting everyone available. I said he hasn't fought a granite-chinned pressure fighter in a long time, which is true, since there isn't one out there right now. And if by "he would be on his record" you mean he would have definitely fought him, I'm pretty sure he would have fought him, too. But if you meant he would beat such a fighter for sure, I can't be sure of that. As I already said, to me that's the style that would give Wlad the biggest problems.

For awhile I was interested in seeing Povetkin v Wlad.
But if Chagaev couldn't be competitive, I think it would be only worse for Povetkin.
Chambers was landing lead straights on Povetkin for so much of that fight.
And they were bothering him. He's very hittable.... Chagaev, thankfully, knows to keep his forearms up blocking his face (and even that didn't work too well for him).

I might be exaggerating with this: but Wlad's jab probably has the same amount of power as Chambers right straight. And he'll be working that jab all night (if they fight), then just imagine what happens with Wlad's right straight starts getting some use?
Chambers was able to affect Povetkin with a lead right, Wlad puts him to sleep.

Also note that Povetkin has soft skin (he seems to get cut and bruised pretty easily). So vs Wlad that would be really bad news...

I know you never said that he isn't fighting everyone available, was just making a point. By having him on his record I meant have fought a pressure fighter NOT beat one. You're right, a pressure fighter in the style of Mercer would definitely give Wladimir trouble. The problem here is that most of the pressure guys available right now can't take his punch as he punches far too hard, if one can take his punch and keep affective aggression up then we have a serious threat. You must also remember that Wladimir's style/jab counters aggressive fighters and keeps them at bay, his movement play a major role there, that's why Chagaev didn't look aggressive even though he was but couldn't be affective with it.

Props for this post Dinamita, it's class to be able to allow your opinion of a fighter to change for the better when they surprise you to the upside. Critics aren't necessarily a bad thing, but they're routinely damned stubborn in their opinion once they've got a guy pegged as one thing or another so posts like this are refreshing. No fan gets 'em all right, anyways. :thumbsup

Take a look at Wlad's last five opponents:

    Lamon Brewster - ex-champ, TKO'd
    Sultan Ibragimov - champ, UD'd
    Tony Thompson - rated #1, KO'd
    Hasim Rahman - ex-undisputed champ, TKO'd
    Ruslan Chagaev - champ, TKO'd

Add victories vs Chris Byrd (champ) and Sam Peter (future champ) and that's 6 heavyweight world champions on WK's resume. Looks pretty impressive to me.

You can make a case for France Botha and Ray Mercer who held titles at some point, and that would make 8 altogether

Wlad does what he needs to do to win. I dont like watching his fights particuarly but like watching Vitali.....he has more of a killer instinct. Maybe im just bloodthirsty.
