who had ruslan in their top five anyway? they must be fair weathered fight fans because there isn't way this will ever happen. **** wlad doesnt even make top five.
watching other fights of his are not really that impressive. he has little movement, he seems beter suited for an octagon style of fighting. so to answer your question ;yes i do believe that the best has been seen of him which wasn't much.
Yep. Well he had hepatitis - there was talk of him never boxing again - and then he had an achillies tendon injury - there was talk of him never boxing again. The two worst performances of his I have seen were Skelton and Drummond, both fought after his illness, one fought after both the illness and career-threatening injury. Is he over the hill? Not sure. Was the injury and the illness a factor in those two poor performances? Yeah.
Chagaev had a high guard, a tucked chin, and some head movement. It was not enough. Wlad's offense was too good. In fact, the one of the best defensive heavyweights out there was Chris Byrd. How did his defense look vs. Wlad? The truth is getting past Wlad's jab, and moving into range only to suffer a hard straight right hand delivered with speed, accuracy and power is not easy for any fighter. regardless of how good or bad Regardless was, he was undefeated with three wins over top ten opponents. No one ever did anything remotely close like this to Chagaev. Wlad deserves props for a good performance and good win.
Nah, after he beat Valuev. Skelton was his comeback opponent after being ill, nearly a year out. Then he injured his tendon which kept him out for 18 months, Drummond was the comeback opponent and he looked rusty, poor. Then Wlad. But i don't think it was going to matter what sort of nick he turned up in against Wlad.
As shown on boxrec? Just one of those, is pro, is he an amature things. Chagaev was at the 2001 amature world championships, so those 1997 fights would have been treated as amature contests by the governing bodies, but otherwise, rightly or wrongly (probably rightly) by boxrec.
I wil rate him after he retires, he had a shutout Saturday but he wasnt fighting anyone any good, fair play to Wlad he can only beat what's there, if he does indeed successfully defend against 3 or 4 of the young guns he will have to be considered at the top level, imo.
