you sure to paint a pretty picture bone, but somthing about him makes me think he is just outside of it. However if he picks up another title then i guess hes in. I just dont think he was that dominant. Alot of his best fights were very close and he had to use a very ugly style to win (id hardly call it hall of fame boxing), but.... he was a tough and strong *******.

 

We are talking about the Hall of Fame in boxing. How should that be enough? A lot of guys have 50 fights and beat one HOF fighter and another decent guys like Castillo. I like Hatton a lot but no Hall of fame. Linear champ? That stuff is made up nonsense. You beat who you beat and if he is linear great. I never made too much out of the linear stuff. Tszyu is a good win. Castillo? He was ok but not a great fighter at all. Very good though like many contenders in weight classes, but nothing exceptional where you say wow he beat Castillo. Castillo is not near a Chavez or Hopkins caliber is what some want to think. Beating Castillo gets you in the Hall? No way. He is a good fighter but he needed more wins to prove he was exceptional. The Hall of Fame is still an honor.

 

My criteria for HOF is that you have to have at least one of the following.

Several wins over very elite fighters or a long period of dominance. Accomplishments over several weight classes helps but not really a requirment. Also it's cool to have some kind of special accomplishment like being the first or youngest to do something. IN short you really have to set yourself apart from other champions

Hatton doesn't have any of the above. He has the Tzyu win as his sole win over a very elite fighter I don't care what anyone says about Castillo he was pretty much a corpse by the time he got in the ring with Ricky.

His reign of dominance was somewhat short lived and he didn't do very well at all above his weight class.

If you look past all the hype and the sold out arena's and the drunken fans chanting and all the warren hype you will see that almost every world title holder out there has accomplishments similar to Ricky's. They all have several wins over good but not great opponents. Several of them have 1 great win and in today's world of 4 major titles in each weight class they all have titles in multiple divisions.

Do you think Vernon Forrest belongs in the HOF? His accomplishments are similar to Ricky's. A great win over a HOF great in Mosley along with some solid wins over good fighters like Phillips, Baldomir, Piccirillo, and Quartey. he was the man at 147 and a paper champion at his second weight class. The only thing that Hatton has that Forrest doesn't is Frank Warren's hype and stadiums full of drunken brits that adore him.

All that being said I acknlowledge that my opinion is just that, an opinion and at the end of the day Ricky's fame will probably get him in.

 

I don't know if I agree with this guy but I can't get around the poor quality of journalism. I hope the rest of The Ring isn't like that.

 

Hatton shouldn't be a hall of famer at all. Much better fighters than Hatton haven't gotten in.

 

I'm a Hatton fan and while I think that he deserves in given some of the others that have reached the Hall, if this was debated in any other sport the answer would simply have to be no.

World class fighter, absolutely no doubt. Terrific win against Tzsyu, that was completely deserved, not dodgy and against a man who had just demolished Sharmba Mitchell. A truly great win, and some other good victories.

But if he's in the Hall, from a Brit point of view then Honeyghan and Benn should be in as well. They achieved as much, particularly Honeyghan.

Only Brits of the past 30 years who should be in there are Lewis, Naz and Calzaghe.

 

I think he'll get in. He was a Jr welterweight champion for a long time. He only loss one fight at 140 lbs and he only loss against the best in pacquiao and mayweather. His career is not over yet. He can still fight and beat fighters at 140 lbs.

 

I think ppl are getting the hall of fame confused with a ATG list...... You also have to take into account the impact someone had on the sport and legacy he leaves behind him..... and not many boxers could say they had the following Hatton had

 

That's fair.

But I don't think anyone's getting confused. The Hall of Fame's criteria just seems very, very blurred - the guiodelines are confused/inconsistent.

 

No fighter with Hattons popularity fails to make the hall.

keep in mind hatton's contributions to boxing on a financial persective as well, who else has takin' 55,000 brits(floyd fight), 25,000(pac fight), and 9,000(during holiday season, maginaggi fight) he was something of a phenom the way he did that, and I personally dont think will see that again......hatton did far more the sport then Naz, or Calazaghe.....

 

Hatton simply isn't good enough to be in the Hall.I don't care how popular he is.His resume just isn't up to snuff.Kostya was 35 and the Hatton fight ended up being his last.And ref Dave Parriss would have allowed Ricky to kick Kostya in the balls that night.Talk about Kostya's big win over Sharmba?Sharmba was even more shot than Kostya,having been stopped 3 times going into the Kostya fight including a stoppage loss to Kostya only a couple of years before.And I'm sick of talk of the Collazo fight.Hatton was holding on for dear life at the end of the fight and still got the decision(wtf) against easily the weakest welter champion of the group.As far as him having lost to the 2 best fighters in the world,yeah by brutal ko's and far worse than much smaller men fared against those 2.Does anyone out there realize that Floyd has 3 ko's in 6 six fights at welter?That is not his best punching weight.The only reason Ricky never lost at 140 until Manny is because that division was pretty weak and Ricky never fought Cotto.Ricky is as overrated as they get.

 

I can't beleive some of these posts.Hatton deserves to get in because of his fans?Sheesh.

 

heres the thing though this era has been pretty weak, and i think your getting confused with ATG and hall of fame there 2 different things.....there are worse guys in the hall then hatton, hatton will get in.....the 35 year old kostya that hatton fought would still have beaten most top 10 guys at 140, ad it was in the works for tszyu to fight mayweather after he beat ricky, keep in mind hatton was a 3-1 underdog in that fight......and louis collazo was NOT a robbery, sure it was a close fight, but no way a robbery and 2 of teh judges had it 115-112.....hatton is 7-2 in world title fights with his only loses to p4p number 1 guys....and himself was on the p4p top 10 list for 2 years.....like i said worse guys then hatton have gotten in, so he should get in...hall of famers are NOT ATG all the time...hatton's a lock, and like i said his contributions to boxing finacially and globally should be appreciated for how freakish his fan base was, it will neve be duplicated again....
