I've read all the Wlad vs. ATG's threads, but how about this?

Right the current WW crop would probably look out of place compared to the crop that existed no more than 10 years ago I'd say. Ever division has its up periods and down periods. I mean whose the best fighter at SFW right now? Jorge Linares? Imagine Linares against the crop that ruled in the 80s guys like Lopez, Nelson, Paez, Johnny Lockridge and such and such.

    Divisions run hot and cold.

Hey -- old school refs were more from the Smoger school than the Cortez philosphy.

Watching the refs from some of the older fights (Hearns and Ali come to mind mostly), You'd almost get the feeling that they were just a fan in a striped shirt who got drunk and wound up in the ring.

see i agree with this, i always thought that if quarry was in a different era then the one he was in, he would have been possibly a dominant champion specially in the 80's and today.....and yes he was built like a cruiser by today's standards...

One of the craziest things I've seen was in (I think) Chuvalo/Ellis. George knocked Jimmy down, and Jimmy was undeniably hurt. The ****ing ref picked Ellis up!!!! and then gave him an 8 count:patsch

Vlad would have knocked Wepner out cold.

Chuck Wepner was game and tough in '75 against Ali......... Wepner was out-classed against Ali, but he came to fight........ I have that on tape... I liked it.......... Wepner is cool..........

That actually happened recently. Yoan Pablo Hernandez was knocked down against Wayne Braithwaite and the referee PICKED Hernandez up and THEN started counting.

I'd say so too. I am asking of the Wepner that showed up for Ali?

You imagine Wlad would go with his "normal" game, or go out on a different limb to take this dude down? is the question at hand, Farms.:yep

I loved Ali, but Vlad punches so much harder than Ali, so very hard and Wepner had no skills. Vlad was 6 feet 7 inches tall also.

Yes. But, I'd have to say though crude, it certainly appeared Wepner punched a hell of a lot harder than Ali too. 6'7" vs 6'5".
