Is Naseem Hamed HOF worthy?

Did Hamed have only one fight in his entire career then?

Should his career be judged solely on that one fight?

Does a single points decision loss to an ATG erase everything else Hamed achieved before that?

Since when did the criteria for the HOF became so high that a guy Hamed couldn't get in?

Hamed won three world titles, unified the division, was the linear champ for half a decade, destroyed most of his opponents - including 9 past, present, or future champions, and was one of the most famous sportsmen on the planet - that should be more than enough to get into the Hall of 'Fame'.

once again this is the hall of fame not the hall of greatness.....the hall of fame should be built with different floors....

the top level is very fancy looking reserved for ali, duran, armstrong, dempsey, marciano, tyson, holmes, leonard, hearns, etc....you get the picture....

then there should be a bottom level floor, that is just a nice area for good fighters with solid accomplishments and intangibles.....fighters like hamed, hatton, gatti, would fit under this category......

IMO I also have thought hatton's case for the hall of fame was about even par with hamed, sure hamed was better, but were talking hall of fame standards and i think guys like hatton and gatti are about even with hamed in this category.......so the answer to the question is yes he gets in but barely, and guys with lesser skills will get in before hamed.....

i hate hamed, but considering the HOF's induction criteria and some of their inductees, i'd say you could slide him in. the HOF needs as much recognizable names on there to attract money during their induction ceremonies anyway, so don't be surprised if they do let him in.

 

Evidence? Listen mate, checking boxrec is not how to measure a fight. Evidence that Naz would beat McGuigan? That Naz fought world champions? Kevin Kelley and Augie Sanchez werent exactly the cream of the crop son, McGuigans opponents had beter records than that. But as I said, records mean ****.

Naseem thrws terriblelead left hooks, and rarely ever, and McGuigan never stopped bobbing, weaving and countering, so again, logic flawed. Just because he moved forward does not make him Jeff Lacy. He had a brilliant defence even going forward.

He tried a lead hook against Barrera and fell over his own feet, ended up getting g smashed against the turnbuckle, who could foret that?

We never got to see how good McGuigan could have been, maybe if he fought Azumah Nelson like everybody wanted then we would have a better measuring stick. But no, the mighty JIm McDonnell stole that from him LOL

And one more thing, Naseem Hamed had 100 times more talent the Amir Khans of this world, and he DOES belong in the HOF considering the standards. But if the standards were as high as they should be, neither McGuigan nor Hamed should be close to being considered. I have seen them both fight many times, I know their styles and how they fight. McGuigan wins. That is all.

If you change the title and poll to "do you like Naz" you will get the same results and posts. No one is objective on ESB it always comes down to liking or hating a particular fighter.

 

Naz was the man! was absolutely gutted when he finally lost to Berrera , atleast he never got knocked out.

I am not saying Naz wasn't a good fighter he was but not a HOF fighter. Come on when the going got tough Naz got the **** out of boxing. Even the greats when they got beaten came back stronger than before Naz was a shadow of himself in his last fight its not a nice way to retire from the sport. He could of went on if he had the bottle to but it seemed to me he lost the bottle and the passion for boxing if your heart isn't in it then retire and thats what Naz did.

 

Naz is deffo HOF material

he was an awsome fighter, wish he would have carried on after his loss and comeback fight though, could have been an ATG if he didnt have that bit of 'no mass' in him

 

Hell ya he's hall of fame! Man, many guys got in there without being all time greats. Are Terry Norris, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, and Pipino Cuevas all time greats? Yet that still didn't stop them from getting in the hall.

Also, I think many underrate Hamed's opponents. Kevin Kelley was in is prime, and back then was NOT sub-par. That was a great victory for Naz. Steve Robinson was on a roll and Hamed had only 19 fights and was 21 when he dominated him. Manuel Medina was very durable before Hamed, and was already a two time champ. After Hamed he started getting stopped, leading me to believe Hamed took something out of him. However, he still won the featherweight title two more times. Tom Johnson, Wilfredo Vasquez, and Vuyani Bungu were all very dominant champs, until they ran into Hamed; afterword, they were never the same.

Like somebody else said, if Barry McGuigan can get in, then Hamed certainly can, and should.
