I saw the following Fernando Vargas Vernon Forrest Zab Judah Pernell Whitaker Lennox Lewis Mo Harris David Tua Andrew Golota Evander Holyfield David Tua some good gym fights. Most of these guys rotated sparring partners. You dont see too many guys sparring a top guy for 8 rounds. Its two or three and then a fresh guy comes in.
can anyone give details of a I believe 16 year old Tony Ayala beating up on Pipino Cuevas? Ive seen it mentioned in a Ring article on Ayala, but it didnt go into detail
There's a clip on YouTube of Oliver McCall sparring with Mike Tyson, I don't know if I found it here, or where, but Mike hits Oliver in the back I think unintentionally and Oliver quits sparring... I think this was somewhere around Tokyo days and I'm not sure if it was commented here or over on YouTube that it's just like Oliver to collect a payday sparring like that and not really doing his job or some ****, quitting.
Brewster sparking Lewis Page busting up and decking Tyson (two separate incidents) Charley Burley, the gym janitor And I bet you did not know that Glenn McCrory went roughly a hundred rounds sparring with prime Tyson, without being decked?:good Glenn would suggest he went to war everyday with Tyson...... Others would suggest Tyson used Glenn for distance work.
In the past McCall claimed it was about 5 all in alleged knockdowns both have inflicted on each other.
That's nice to know since McCall had an amazing beard throughout... I just rewatched the clips on YouTube so I wouldn't look like I was talking out of my ass, Mike hit him I think accidentally once in the back, then two times McCall turns his back on him and Mike hits the back again... Someone on YouTube commented: I hope he didnt get paid for that mess. MC is the type to fake injury to collect workers comp
A friend of mine told me that Oscar gave Chavez trouble in some sparring seesions when he was about 19. However, I also read that Chavez dropped him a couple of times..so I hope someone knows the truth and can post it
How about Victor Ortiz giving Oscar a black eye in preparation for Pac. Oscar sent him home afterwards lol
You would be surprised how often it happens, not just to Lennox. If you are a top fighter, you need top quality sparring. Two world class punchers both weighing 230+, sparring tens of rounds, is going to lead to incidents.
Somebody mentioned in the Liston thread, that Sonny and Foreman sparred once. That should be amazing :scaredas:
Forrest was kicking his butt. This was early when Vargas was just turning pro. It was the Main Events camp up in Palm Beach. They had all these guys training together. There was another guy who came out of the olympics who I didnt get his name, but he was in all his olympic gear and fancy clothes, and he was sparring with this guy in tennis shoes and regular clothes and the guy in the tennis shoes knocked him out. I remember Lou Duva got in the ring and was smacking the kid in the face to wake him up. Everyone was watching it was kind of crazy.
