Is it me or have others notice how Mayweather and Manny are taking full credit on the ppv buys when they both fought Hatton and DLH? Hatton has a lot of British fan support win or lose and DLH needs no explanation. Now they are using this when fight negotiations are in the process as deserving the bigger purse... Manny wants 70-30 against Cotto and his camp doesnt think Cotto deserves 65-35. My question is does Manny really have a big following and what are his biggest PPV buys before the Hatton and DLH? I bet Cotto is not far from if we begin to compare buys. What if Cotto fought DLH and Hatton fought first, would he have similar buys? Does anyone remember Trinidad vs DLH... Could you have imagine DLH vs Cotto before all this...

I think Manny did near 500K in the JMM rematch and 400K in the Barrera rematch but of course I could be wrong. I know the 3 Morales fights combined for about 1 million PPV buys

I think that's what the OP is talking about.

One fighter taking all the credit for the PPV numbers.

well if we were talking about Marquez' PPV numbers, I would say I think Marquez did near 500K against Pacquiao. So its just a way of speaking more than giving only 1 fighter credit.

People have become too sensitive to trivial things.

If those numbers are correct on rematch fights which tend to generate a higher ppv buy how is Manny have such a larger fan base than Cotto... It is known Cotto vs Margarito did anywhere from 450k to 475k. I believe Cotto could fight in Atlantic City, MSG, and even Las Vegas and have good showings... I just dont see why they keep on saying Cotto only has a fan base in NY, when he has done well in Atlantic City and also Las Vegas with his Margarito fight...

Lower weights usually generate less anyways and Pacquiao is alot more popular today than he was then.

IMO Manny and Cotto have more fans than Mayweather ad generate more PPV $$$.

IMO Hatton is probably larger than all three. The Brits are crazy for him.

Also, I read an article a while back and the gist was that the Philippines are very poor compared to the US and Mexico and they do not pay big $$$ to see Manny fight.

This is the way I look at it......

Pac-DLH did about a million or so PPV's.....
.....alot of DLH PPV's have done in that range.....

The Mayweather-DLH fight did well in excess of 2 million buys, no other DLH fight has even come within sniffing distance of that number....so it can safely be said that Mayweather was responsible in the promotion and bringing in that many buys.....

Mayweather-Hatton did in excess of 900K......

The real numbers for Pac-Hatton are being refused of being disclosed by Bob Arum. If it would benefit Pacquiao, I'm sure everyone can agree that Arum would have disclosed those numbers by now.....the guess estimates in the media range anywhere from 700K to 850K......since Arum refused to disclose the figures, my guess has to be that it did well under 800K in US sales.

Cotto-Margarito was said to have sold 550K, which is just slightly above what Pac did for his JMM rematch.

Honestly, between Pac and Cotto, I believe each draw in as many fans......a Cotto fight with DLH instead of Pac would have surpassed what Pac did vs DLH imo.
Mexican vs Puerto Rican blood just sell huge with the Latino market which is vast in the US.........

Since Pac has had more exposure of late and he's delivered in grand fashion against DLH and Hatton, my opinion is that Pac against Cotto should get the better end of a 60-40 cut and not a cent more.
Cotto draws alot of fans in as well, and that should not be taken for granted.

Pacquiao fought ODH and Hatton during recession, thus, their PPV revenue is lower compared to Floyd fighting Hatton and ODH.

Everyone knows that Mayweather is hated and most fans are routing for his opponents.

Hatton's fan are mostly from Manchester, Britain. It's not like the whole Britain country is routing for him. Pacquiao's home country, however, is routing for him to win. It is true that compared to the US the Philippines is poor, but about a 50% or more people buy PPV.

I'll repeat myself, Mayweather is hated by alot of boxing fans because of his ****ed up mentality and attitude. Pacquiao on the other hand is loved by his fans because of his exciting skill and down to earth attitude.

My point is every time Pacquiao fights and wins; he gains alot fans. When Mayweather fights he gets booed and hated even if he wins. Therefore, after Pac-ODH and Pac-Hatton fight, Pacquiao's fan base is bigger than Mayweather or Cotto or Mosley. Of course if Oscar is still active then Oscar's fan base is ALOT bigger than all of them.

The fighter does'nt give a **** whether he's loved or hated......the bottom line at the bargaining table whether it was during an economic boost or downfall, is PPV buys......

A mega showdown will sell no matter what the scale of the economy is at.......Arum blamed the economy on poor PPV buys for Pacquiao-Diaz.....then soon after Cotto Margarito did in excess of 500K buys in the same economic environment.

Whether the economy is on an upturn or downturn, it does'nt matter at the bargaining table......bottom line is what have you done on the PPV market!!!!:deal

OF course Manny and Mayweather will take credit. They'd be stupid not to take credit.
