Great thread, Rummy! I think a thread where posters top 10s are listed should be a sticky.

    1. Muhammed Ali
    2. Joe Louis
    3. Rocky Marciano
    4. Jack Dempsey
    5. Larry Holmes
    6. Sonny Liston
    7. George Foreman
    8. Joe Frazier
    9. Mike Tyson
    10. Sam Langford

I also like Old Fogey's idea of scoring the fighters at a scale of 1 - 10 points to give a more accurate indicator of voting.

    There goes my list :deal

    1 Ali
    2 Louis
    3 Holmes
    4 Holyfield
    5 Marciano
    6 Lewis
    7 Dempsey
    8 Foreman
    9 Liston
    10 Frazier
    11 Tyson

Places 1-5 are pretty sure. Places 6-9 I am kinda not so sure; specific names could move up or down in the future.

The 10th place was a tough call. At the end I decided to take Tyson out and keep Frazier in :think

Sure Tyson had a lot of more stat and record achievements than Frazier. But I feel that Frazier fought way tougher rivals and took part in legendary fights like the "Thrilla in Manilla".

At the end, I decided that Tyson, although an ATG, doesn't make the top ten because my impression is that anyone of the top ten would have been able to defeat him :hey

Agreed bummy. Walcott also has one of the best win resmes in heavyweight history, and has a proven style h2h vs ATG heavyweight champions. He also has taken on more ranked punchers than any other champion except lewis and ali

I know Holyfield had good wins over Douglas, Tyson,Bowe and beat an old Holmes and Foreman...he missed the ATG list this time but I will squeeze him in next time....In reality there should be shared spots...a top 10 was easy back in the day, there were less greats. this is my real ratings

    1) Joe Louis
    2) Rocky Marciano
    3) Ali
    4)Lennox Lewis
    5)Jersey Joe Walcott
    6)Smokin Joe Frazier
    7)George Foreman/Jack Johnson
    Jack Dempsey/Jim Jeffries
    9(Mike Tyson/Evander Holyfield
    10)Larry Holmes/Harry Wills/Sonny Liston
