This is the one thing you are right about. If Abraham didn't run his mouth about Pavlik, no one would care about him. It's pretty hard to get excited about Ayala, Simon, and Oral, especially when the guy who fought them turned down Taylor, Zuniga, Wright, and Karmazin.
Booradley -- you are normally a very good poster too though when Pavlik's name is brought up his **** somehow finds a way in your apartment and deep down your throat. (Don't take it offensively, it's meant as a joke) How the hell can you twist this to Abraham ducking Pavlik?! , Abraham and his team did MORE THAN ENOUGH calling him out. As a matter of fact they have been trying to get this fight since he beat Taylor the FIRST time and I can't blame Pavlik for ignoring them back then since he got a rematch offer and had bigger hopes of scoring a major fight with Calzaghe instead. Still this doesn't erase that fact, these guys tried hard enough to get the fight and were ignored and his issues with weight might be new to you but I've known these guys have issues since the Marquez fight so it's no surprise for me here. Fact is it was Abraham and his team calling for the fight and Pavlik and his team asking Abraham to "be more popular in the US". That was their PUBLIC response, go to youtube and enjoy the post fight interviews after the Rubio fight. Now when Abraham reports he can't make weight they're willing to take it.
Zuniga?, that journeyman who knocked down Pavlik? Listen man, they did a good job running their mouth otherwise you wouldn't be here discussing this fight. They have been calling the man out for a long time and were asked to be more popular in the US to make it possible. Can you please explain to me how he became more popular in the US now?, I mean they're showing interest all of a sudden, why?, did he have any recent fights in the US that we haven't heard of or it's because he can't make weight anymore?
I don't agree with this. These guys are big, long-time MWs and are getting older. It's entirely reasonable that either or both would have trouble boiling down. The question is why this fight didn't get made for 2009. There was absolutely no reason for it not to happen, but in the end it didn't.
What happened to "building arthurs profile"? I guess he has and we missed it, oh well greater things await at 168! Now arthur is the one "ducking", since he is moving up to a MUCH MORE COMPETITIVE division. LOL!
Blah blah blah, and Aaron Pryor used to show up at SRL's press conferences -- it means **** all. Fighting Demers instead of Taylor, Ayala instead of Zuniga, Simon instead of Wright, and Oral instead of Karmazin means your career is a carefully crafted marketing gimmick. It does not mean you have some inherent right to a shot at the champ, nor does it demonstrate a desire to fight the best. It demonstrates a clear desire to do the opposite. That is a matter of history. The rest is just talk.
Sauerland asking for guarantees and TV money amounting to $2 million dollars had something to do with it. What was Pavlik suppose to do? fight for free?
He won't go near those guys. He'll fight Balzsay, and if he wins, he'll stay in Germany, and fight no hopers and green prospects. That's his gimmick and his history.
You don't know that hopefully pavlik moves up and both arthur and kelly do some damage at 168, now that would be nice would not you agree BOO?
Neither side negotiated in good faith. Part of making a fight is generating interest with the public to demand the fight ("hey, i want to fight this guy and he won't do it!!!), but Team Pavlik never did that. And obviously Sauerland is a joke. It's not even worth discussing how that operates. This reminds me of Calzaghe/Kessler. For the longest time Warren pretended Kessler didn't exist, but Calzaghe's momentum stalled and he ultimately had no choice. Had there been weight issues involved, that fight probably wouldn't have happened, either. It's just frustrating to me and so many other fans that 1) the only big fight in the division, 2) between the champ and his No. 1 contender, 3) with lots of TV interest, 4) never even entered into serious negotiations. Say what you will about MMA and UFC specifically, but the big fights get made. Pavlik/Abraham not happening in 2009 is a ****ing travesty. There's no excuse for it, and both sides deserve blame. Worst, I think that fight would bring about the best in both competitors.
Actually I think AA could knock Froch silly. The man is just soooo hittable. As far as right now, I do not want to hear about Arthur moving up when Dunkin and Arum are stil trying to make the fight. I want Sauerland to come down off his high horse and be reasonable about money, and I want Arthur to keep his vow to stay at 160, and make the god damn fight!
Unfortunately, the fight loses its shine at 168. Neither guy would be favored to beat a prime Kessler (and who knows what his deal is these days), and both would have a very difficult time with Bute, Andrade, Froch, et al. And if he comes down, Chad Dawson would be a heavy favorite over both as well.
Boo, lets be fair, you do not know the exact details of the financial and back door complications, unless you are a part of team pavlik(which would not surprise me one bit), to make a long story short, why are you "entirely" blaming sauerland when arum has a reputation of a snake?
