His eye seems to be fine. The vid was posted on 6/22. Does their conversation talk of when this interview took place? Spanish speakers help us out.
Well first they asked him most likely who the next opponent will be and Cotto said it will most likely be Pacquiao. They then asked that there were rumors saying the that the purse split was going to be 70/30 and Cotto answered that nothing is final and hopefully the money issue will work out fine. They then asked that there are many suggestions that Cotto should not fight Pacquiao yet and that he should get his team/corner in order and that ultimately does he really feel ready for Pac and Cotto answered that he has been hearing and that he will fix some mistakes he made. Then he mentioned that Pac was at an advantage against DLH because he got Oscar who was at the end of his career come down to weigh at 147 and ended up doing nothing. He then said Hatton was overrated and that he failed twice in his biggest fights and that Cotto will be healthy and fight smart enough to beat Pacquiao. he is firm on the 145 pounds as well. He also said that if the Pac fight doesnt go through he would like a rematch with Mosley. His cut seems to be healing very well.
hmm says.. how u doin bro? thanks for the translation. Yeah I thought the eye looked pretty damn fantastic so I thought it was before Clottey. Healing real well. Should be ready by fight night.
So Cotto's initial reaction when asked about the 70/30 split wasn't to blatantly scoff at that idea huh. :think That probably means that it will end up a 70/30 split.
Cotto doesnt ***** about money as much as others ("Cough" PBF) but he does deserve a good share. i believe 65/35 is fair to both but he'll probably take 30 as well too. What he does seem firm and wont budge on is the weight.
Interviewer: Youve had everything checked out and you are ready, right? Cotto: We are ready for the next opponent. Interviewer: Who is the next one going to be? Cotto: It is still unknown, but we are waiting to talk to the company. Fat guy: There is talk about it being Pacquiao. Frankly (? inaudible), do you want Pac, are you interested in Pac? Cotto: Well, yes, if the fight is made we'll put the offer on the table and make things even. Things that are good for him and for me. I understand (That last part was inaudible to me.) Interviewer: There is talk of a 70-30 split. Cotto: That is what I have talked about (inaudible again. Cotto and his monotone/low voice have me tied up in knots.) Interviewer: I heard 70-30 something (the whole room bursts into laughter.) **** that, it's too long to do it like ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Basically he said he was interested. He also went on to say that Pac had an advantage over ODLH since he was at the end of his career and it showed in that fight that he was weight-drained. He also dissed Hatton by saying he was overrated. Cotto also said he wouldn't sacrifice his body and was firm that the fight had to be at 145. He also said if the Pac fight wasn't made, Mosley was an option since he wanted a rematch.
65-35 seems about right to me as well. We'll see how it plays out. As far as the weight, 145 is a compelling medium. Any lower then I would side with Pac and any higher I'd pick Cotto. It's really an interesting weight and I can tell you that I won't be making my official prediction; not for a long while.
Pacman or mosley this guy love him or hate him, rate him or not he will seek to fight the best, and example to boxing and boxers.....
