Prime vs Prime Lewis vs Vitali

All we need to know is that Lewis fought past his era and beat the best guy of the next era. That adds to Lewis`s credentials.

Wait so your saying....A past his prime Lennox Lewis beats a Prime Vitali Klitschko by stoppage, yet you think a younger faster better PRIME Lennox lewis doesnt beat Vitali?


Clearly if Lewis can beat vitali past his prime, then he can surely unequivically beat him DURING his prime

 

I do not think Vitail wasn't at his best yet as he lacked world class experience, and became a better fighter after this fight. Vitali took the fight on less than 2 weeks notice, and was up 4-2 on all three score cards. Lewis won on a cut, which is something of a wild card that is not likely to repeat itself.

The cut bailed Lewis out in more ways than one as it happened early in round 3 after Vitali rocked Lewis in round two.

The best way to beat Lewis is to have a powerful right hand and a good jab, which are things Vitali had. In addition Vitlai had a way better chin, and a higher punch out put.

I am saying a prime vs prime match could go either way.

One result does not guarantee a duplicate in a re-match. Look at Patterson vs Ingo or Frazier vs Ali.

 

You might be saying it, but very few others are. Those cuts didn't just magically appear, so you can forget the "cuts are a wildcard theory" they were literally, hand delivered. And there was certainly more than one. Essentially Lewis beat the crap out of him, here's really no other way to put it and as such the score cards were rendered meaningless.

And personally I don't think I've seen a better version of Vitali than the one who fought Lewis, it was the fight he was waiting for, for a number of years.

You don't seem to be able to put the Klitschko brothers in proper perspective. They are very good, perhaps Wlad may even prove to be great, fighters, but both of them would very likely loose to a prime Lewis, who most people consider a top 10 ATG, and some consider him a a top 5 ATG.

Objectively it's pretty hard to see it any other way. The only interesting aspect would be which of the two brothers would give him a tougher fight. Personally I think Vitali would.

 

What evidence do you have to support that Vitali " improved " after the Lewis fight? He fought a total of three additional times against Corrie Sanders, Danny Williams and Kirk Johnson before haging them up for 4 years. None of those men were in particularly good form when he fought them either. Vitali is now 37 years of age, and still thawing out from a 4 year leave of abscence.. I see no valid argument supporting that he improved after the Lewis fight. The best case that can be made, is that he simply stayed the same. I will also say that Lewis was no where near even close to prime when he fought Vitali, there is nothing that would convince me of anything different.

Since I have seen most of his fights, I think you should consider what I have to say. Vitali's technique improved after the Lewis fight. He threw more body shots, combinations and hooks post Lewis. I also think he was more relaxed in the ring.

Probably because the opponents were **** weak by comparison.

A shot Lewis would have owned any of those, probably all three on the same night.

 

I don't know about that. Sanders, Johnson, and Williams could all punch. If Rhaman or McCall could startch Lewis with one punch, you would have to give these three a fair puncher's chance too.

 

Because he wasnt facing Lennox Lewis! Id more relaxed too if was facing a fat Kirk Johnson.

 

Honestly...Anyone who thinks vitali can beat a prime Lennox Lewis after what a past his prime out of shape lennox lewis did to vitalis face, they are living in fantasy island.


Lennox in his prime knocks out vitali or wins a clear decision. Lennox was on a whole other planet than vitali in terms of skill speed punching ability...lennox much better superheavyweight than vitali could ever drean to be and the difference in resumes show it!

 

I like Vitali Klitschko and rate him, but i would have to say Lewis. I must be objective and at the end of the day, Lewis won their first fight fairly.

I'm the on who's always going on about Duran and Leonard both deserving all the plaudits for their wins over one another regardless of circumstances, so i'd be hypocritical not to simply say that Lewis already beat him once at the tail end of his career.

 

And I have seen two of his last three fights before going into semi-retirement - Sanders and Johnson. Frankly, I don't see any major difference that jumps out of the book at me. It took him 8 rounds to pummel a thoroughly deconditioned Corrie Sanders who was 38 years of age, off for 13 months, and never had a particularly good track record for good stamina or durability. Kirk Johnson was terribly out of shape at 260 Lbs. How do these fights prove anything and what SPECIFIC aspects of Vitali's game improved in your eyes?

 

You will have to watch before and after films to see the differnce I am talking about.

Again, Vitali became a better fighter after the Lewis match. He added in body shots, became better on the counter, hooked a bit more, and threw more combinations.

I suppose I'll have to spell it out for you.

Vs Johnson Vitali showed counters, body shots, and hooks. It was the hook that first hurt Johnson. By the way Johnson weighed in with two sets of close on.

Vs Sanders Vitail mixed in body shots to slow Sanders down.

Vs Williams Vitali mixed in combinations, including the KO sequence.

In the Peter fight, Vitlai was very accurate. Some consider Peter Vitali's best pure boxing effort, and it was well past the Lewis fight coming off a near 4 year layoff.
