WBC executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman sent a letter to the parties of WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (25-0,19 KOs) and former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (30-4,15 KOs) to begin free negotiations of a rematch on their January 17th bout of earlier this year. This ruling had been decided at the last WBC Convention that was held in Chengdu, China. If no agreement is reached then the WBC will conduct a purse bid offer on July 17th at the WBC offices in Mexico City. Berto narrowly defeated Collazo by decision in their bout. Each fighter has had one fight since then. Berto easily decisioned Juan Urango last month, while Collazo to keep busy stopped journeyman David Gogichaishvili this past weekend.
I think Berto beats him more convincingly this time, Collazo worked his ass off in that fight but it's a bout how many rounds you win not about how many punches you land , and most of the body shots landed had no steam behind them.
Collazo schooled Berto on the inside ALL NIGHT. The fight on the outside wasn't particularly in one fighters favour.
I thought Berto just nicked a terrific, spirited fight. The fight was good enough to warrant a rematch and close enough to demand the 2 settle the score. Instead we get Berto-Urango, which is useless to just about everyone other than Berto & DiBella. I'm glad the WBC have ordered a rematch. HBO could, and probably should have already.
It was a hellava of a fight. I also thought Berto won by hair. Glad WBC is doing a do over. Collazo put up a hellava fight.
I agree, Collazo fought his ass off. Berto barely made it. if Collazo had better conditioning it would've been a different story.
This is a chance to see how Berto and his camp make adjustments...if he wins easily or by KO he'll put pressure on the top welters to fight him...if he loses he may never get any of those guys in the ring NEVER!!!
Collazo deserves this rematch but at the same time I'd rather see berto step it up. it's time to test the waters and fight a top level welterweight, he's got belt for **** sakes thwe time is now. I'd prefer even Cintron. I'd like to see Clottey vs Berto over everything else though
I agree Berto needs to win this fight easily, but Collazo is underrated so it'll be a good fight. Collazo deserves it.
