I have to agree with that. Vitali was more comfortable in the ring and he dominated Kirk Johnson and a Danny Williams that stopped Mike Tyson. Sanders was on a high and threw some early bombs vs Vitali. I remember watching a trial horse years ago, his name was Mike Weaver. Weaver was a strong underdog getting a title shot with a close win over Bill Sharkey a club fighter. Weaver had a 19-8 record and was stopped many times but he proved something in the ring the night he fought Holmes and that one fight changed his attitude about himself. The same with a fighter that gets Knocked out cold, ever notice it is much easier for it to happen again. The mind is a funny thing. Anyway Vitali proved something he needed to in that fight with Lewis and I was impressed with him in his fights with Johnson, Williams, and Sanders and thought that he was coming into himself and was improving based on those fights in comparision to his fight with Timo Hoffman and Lewis and that is why I asked the question.
Considering an old and out of shape Lewis was able to handle Klitschko, you would have to go with a prime Lewis!
Mendoza, going by your logic dont cry "Vitali is past his prime" when/if he loses to Haye, Boystov, Potvekin, Arreloa, or Dimitrenko.
I think Vitali would always present a hard matchup for Lewis, because he was very aggressive against bigger boxers, and Klitschko's durability will see to a war. I'm not sure if he'd suffer the same type of cuts, so maybe it will go to a decision, but i would favor Lewis either way. The best scenario for Klitschko that i can see is a Mercer-like fight.
I love the way people always say that as though it's big news. With a powerful right hand and a good jab you could theoretically beat anyone. People always say that anyone with a good jab and a powerful right hand could beat Tyson....quite a few fighters with those attributes tried and failed. Lewis fought several fighters with a good jab and a powerful right hand, some of them with better jabs and right hands than old VITLAY, and he always got the better of them with the exception of Rahman where it took him 2 fights. I'd love to know what it is that would make Lewis more vulnerable when he would be coming into a fight he'd already won once, in even better shape :huh
Lewis would be favorite to win but it's pure speculation. Lewis wins most by UD Vitali wins some by TKO or decision. Based on what we know of the boxers it's far more probable that Vitali KOs Lewis than the other way around. In fact all of the fights Lewis had against tough boxers with good chins have gone the whole 12 rounds: Tua, HolyfieldX2, Mavrovic, Mercer. And yet all UK fans see him knocking out Vitali in several rounds.
Pontius...You do realize lewis was 37, out of shape, and inactive when he fought vitali right? Lewis reflexes were far gone when he fought vitali, and he still cut his face into ribbons. The prime Much faster much sharper reflexes younger lennox would have easily outclassed vitali and beaten him into submission. Face it, Lennox is leagues above vitali in his prime. Even a far past his prime lennox proved he was better than a prime vitali.
Sorry, but I still don't see it.. The only thing I see is Klitschko doing the same kind of work against faded competition that he had done on his rise towards Lewis. For the record, I think that Klitschko has some very good attributes - A solid chin, decent power, better than average boxing skills... That's it... You're almost describing a 37 year old Vitali as a reincarnated Muhammad Ali look alike 6 years after losing to Lewis. No one will take you serious with this kind of claim..
