I see our resident ****** is back. Lesson #1 (repeat after me) when you establish yourself as the best fighter in the world, that defacto makes you the best fighter in the UK. Gee whizz what's next, he has to fight his next door neighbour to prove he's the best fighter in the street or something? Bottom line, Witter is a total irrelevant. I'd rather see my fighters have the balls to leave the comforts of their home country and mix it with the elite (Tszyu, Castillo, Mayweather, Pac and several other good contenders like Malignaggi, Collazo and Urango) than stay at home knocking over stiff after stiff at the Doncaster Dome. I'd rather see fights like those than fights which have nothing apart from the odd coincidental sub plot. Real boxing fans know that Witter is nothing other than a convenient piece of muck for haters to throw at Hatton and if it wasn't him it would be somebody else.

The knowledge (or lack thereof) of this absolute fool is shown by his reference to Man United fans, anyone with an ounce of knowledge regarding Hatton knows he's a hardcore City fan. Anyone with any sense can stop reading at this point.

    Ah :-(

Your post is not true though :deal

Witter was not just some normal next door neighbour though was he?

    He was

    British
    Commonwealth
    European
    WBC World Light Welterweight Champion

The guy established himself in his own right as one of the best fighters in the world

    Now Hatton is in Manchester

Witter is in Sheffield / Bradford

to me that is a natural rivalry

    But anyhow

Forget the world title fights in America, etc

Forget all the fancy big purses

Hatton V Witter was a fight that should have taken place during his WBU title days

Hatton fought loads of tomatoe cans during that reign

He did at least during that time have the balls to fight

    Jon Thaxton W UNA 12
    Eamon Mageee W UNA 12

Significantly these two British rivals above gave him his toughest fights as WBU Champion

Thaxton had him cut early - and Hatton was in danger of being stopped on the cut

and Magee put him on his bum

But he never had the guts to face Witter - who was the best British rival of the lot

    He ducked him

And fought 40 year old shot fighters like Vince Philips

Then Hatton set the ludricous standard of Witter having to win a world title first

I didnt see Haton demand Stephen Smith win a World title before he fought him :huh

But Witter was actually good enough

    and wins

    WBC World Light Welterweight Title

Hatton had never or has never won a WBC title - that would have been a good feather in his cap to achieve

But he still didnt want it - and made more excuses

You and GazOC can dress it up however you want

Hatton ducked Witter - and made silly excuses as to why - showing what a fraud of a character he really is behind all them silly jokes and nice guy persona:deal

:nonoIf you are the best fighter in the world, doesn't automatically mean you have the beating of every fighter in the world.Witter presents stylistic problems for Hatton regardless of Hattons superior status

    :deal

    Exactly

If that was the case - a World Champion would stay a World Champion forever

Best fighters in the World have to face the biggest challenges out there to prove themselves

Not duck a fighter - and still claim to be the best :-(

Witter was one of the top fighters himself

Witter made no sense for hatton....hatton had big asperations and dreams.....something witter has ALWAYS lacked.....sure as a fight fan be nice to see Hatton school Witter on the inside......but Hatton had bigger fish to fry......even the period right before the tszyu fight would have been the best time to face witter but ricky had to do IBF eleminators to get a shot at tszyu in the first place.......

Hatton faced the biggest challenges out there. He took on Tszyu, Castillo, Mayweather, Pacquiao and a host of other good contenders like Malignaggi (#2 in the division), Urango (still his only loss and now a top 5 rated world champ), Collazo (top ten belt holder at 147 on short notice). Even the lesser guys like Maussa and Lazcano were top 10 and not bad wins. If that's not proving yourself I don't know what is. Certainly not fighting the like of Fred Kinuthia and Lucky Sambo in front of two men and a dog at the Doncaster Dome whilst proclaiming to be one of the top fighters in the world. Bottom line, Hatton's fought half a dozen fighters on a similar level to Witter (champ for a day with a successful defence or two) and a whole lot of better ones. Hatton himself would have been (with the possible exception of Judah) the best fighter Witter ever faced by a country mile. There's the difference.

I can't even be bothered to quote that other pile of garbage you posted (memo, learn to use paragraphs properly as that **** is totally irritating). But I will say the following. A "natural rivalry" has to be two-sided rather than about one person having a pathological jealousy of the other. This is what I mean when I say the Hatton haters on here (who all seem to use the same old boring Witter issue to go on about) seem to prefer fights with sub-plots which are interesting but in the grand scheme of things irrelevant. Those who support him would rather see a fighter willing to leave his comfort zone and challenge himself v the best. Which Hatton showed himself willing to do and Witter comprehensively lacked the balls to.

As for the silly comments re: titles, a title is only worth as much as the opponent you win it against. So was it Alan Bosworth (15-10-2), Fred Kinuthia or Salvatore Battaglia who made Witter such a must-see? Let's not even go on about the dire points win over a shell of Corley who had lost 3 of his last 5 bouts. Take out the WBU title and what you've got for Hatton is a nice sequence of learning fights against 10-20 ranked guys (Phillips, Oliveira, Tackie,Magee) which primed him to fight for the title against the undisputed top dog. By contrast, the dross Witter was fighting in those days was just that. Between Judah and Ndou (five years) he did not fight one fighter who would have made the world top 50. That is disgraceful for a fighter who is supposed to be world class.

The other factor is that despite mouthing off a lot to the press, Witter did not at any stage put a formal written offer in for the bout or seek to open serious negotiations. His attitude was always "call me Ricky" leaving it up to Hatton. That is akin to the spotty fat chick with glasses slipping her number to the school hunk who can have his pick of the chicks.

Bottom line, one of these guys showed with actions not words that he was willing to leave his comfort zone and his hometown and mix it with the absolute elite that the world had to offer. The other was an opportunist who wasn't willing to leave his comfort zone, mix with any genuine top class fighters and based his whole career around the hope that the other would offer him a payday. One was a fighter who harboured genuine ambitions of fighting the best. The other a charlatan who some deluded idiots have latched onto for the purposes of justifying their own preconceived hatred of the man who has achieved. Keep clutching at those straws boys...

He planned on taking on some decent international competition instead perhaps. Unlike some on here, had the wider picture, bigger aspirations and knew that the domestic scene wasn't important in the grand scheme of things.

OK, for the purposes of eradicating any confusion, Hatton is still Urango's only loss (at 140) and Urango is now a world title holder ranked in the top 5 of his division (Ok I'm inaccurate on that one, they've now moved him down to #6 since Pac invaded the division but you get the picture).

That doesn't account for the difference in styles.

I thought the natural order of things was to prove yourself the best in Britain first and then move on

Like fight your main British Challenger

And defending the WBU title against Stephen Smith and Tony Pep and some blown up Super Feathrweight on 4 days notice is hardly decent international competition

Hattons WBU title reign was littered with easy defences

Witter was the hardest most challenging fight out there

Well don't ****in read it then. I'm sure as hell not gonna lose any sleep over it. I express my views as I see them. If people don't agree or don't want to read it's it, up to them. There are enough credible boxing fans out there who do.
