Truly a masterpiece. yet im starting to feel a bit different about the second time that chico manually took out his mouthpiece after the 2nd knockdown. If he doesn't do this the castillo wins the fight. on the other hand when diego sealed his victory should the ref gave a couple more seconds before he jumped in to see if castillo could so something or was he out on his feet.your thoughts.

In my view Corrales did what he had to do.He got penalized as point.

Depends on how you see it.

    Strategic for me.

And Castillo with his experience shouldn't have came in that recklessly. But in those final flurries Corrales took a lot of punches before countering Castillo.Corrales's chin was better than given credit for.

so do you think the ref could have let it go a few seconds longer or was castillo in danger of serious injury?

    No.

Castillo wa sdone at the point of the stoppage. He was a rag doll.

My point is that he shouldn't have reached that point.

Had the ref let it go a few second longer, Castillo might have been severely and permanently hurt. Did you see the last shot Corrales landed??? It was like Castillo was shot in the forehead with gun.

reason i ask is that castillo had never been knocked out before and if im not mistaken not even knocked down i think? so what im getting at is i his threshold was larger than others for punishment taken. and yes he did look like **** there for a minute but it was brief and being the great fighter that he was at that time seemed that he possibly could've done something. i know im an idiot for even saying this.

chico did what he had to do. he needed time and spitting out his mouthpiece gave him time. his corner also did what he had to do. we both cant blame them for doing what they needed to. they were smart as hell. if i was a fighter, i'l love it if my corner acted the same way.

however, the ref had a call to make. he could have dq'd corales but he decided the deduction was penalty enough.

for the record, i wasnt rooting for anyone in that fight. and i've never been that emotional for a fight not inloving a fighter i am a huge fan of

When Diego went down for the 2nd count -- 30 seconds was lost before the ref said box on [ kd & mouthpiece move etc ] this saved his ass -- Castillo must have started relaxing thinking the hard battle was over -- fight was stopped when Castillo was helpless ---- love them both :smoke

The fight should have been stopped when diego spat out the mouthpiece. The whole taking a point argument is bull****. He was KO'd. The rules say you have to be on your feet and ready to fight at 10 and he wasn't I don't see how a point deduction can compensate for that.

I love Corrales, I rooted for Corrales, I'm one of his biggest fans, but I am a bit dissapointed he had to spit the mouth peice out. It does take a bit away from the win.

    RIP

Chico cheated and was penalized for it.

    Part of the rules.

The "he was smart", "did what he had to do" argument doesn't hold for me - he cheated. The point deduction doesn't nearly compensate for the advantage he gained. The ref should have the discretion to let the fight continue without the mouthpiece if he considers it was done on purpose; I don't think a dq is out of order either. He should also be able to announce the point deduction between rounds rather than adding to the recovery time.

The stoppage was legit, though. Incredible comeback round that it was, it's badly tarnished in my eyes. Like a game winning hr hit with a corked bat.
