I think im ready to see sum1 call themselves the best in the division and not hold a version of 1 of the titles. I kno evry1 of the governing bodies have issues but ffs. Who do u thinks most likely to unify a division.
because being unified champ is ****ign expensive. EVERY belt wants part of your purse. normally 1 belt is ****ign expensive enough. But then multiply that by 4 times, and before you know it, like 10-20 percent of your purse is going to these crooks
cant blame the fighters for this. the sanctioning bodies are making it near impossible to unify due to all their stupid rules and sanctioning fees. look at whats just happened with tim bradley with his wbc belt. also clottley having to give up his belt before the cotto fight
Because it's not so much as they don't want to as they can't. It's very hard nowadays. Look at Bradley,he unified WBC and WBO and they stripped him of th WBC for no aparent reason.
It's almost impossible. Once a guy holds one divisions belt the other ones pretty much drop him from their rankings which means that he will never be a mandatory for a belt holder from another division which means that in order to fight the other belt holder you have to turn down a mandatory which results in you getting stripped of that title. It sounds confusing but look at it like this. Fighter A holds the WBC title Fighter B holds the WBA title. Fighter B will never be a mandatory for fighter A. Fighter C comes into the picture as the WBC's mandatory challenger. If fighter A chooses to fight Fighter B in an effort to unify, the WBC strips him for not fighting their mandatory. Combine that with the expense of holding all these titles and it's just not worth the headache half the time. The fans usuaully agree on who the best in the division is and that's all that should matter.
I can think of one.... 4 X the sanction fees! If I won all the belts, inc Ring, I would keep either the WBO or WBC and fight mandatories when necessary and fight whoever I wanted for the Ring belt the rest of the time. I'd dump the IBF and WBA belts, I would not class myself a real champ with either of those.
MOst fighters want 2 things Money and/or Recognition Belts cost you money but you dont get any credit for them watsoever (see. Kotelnik,Berto the list goes on The smarter thing is to pick the fights u want, jump divisions if you have 2 to make the recognition/money fights (see. Pac comin 2 147 for Oscar, Hatton doin the same for Floyd), but its hard to make big fights if you havent won any belts b4. So basically belts these days= stepping stone, they give leverage in negotiations for real fights. **** mandatories
He never said that as far as I know. On the contrary. They made him pick which belt he wants to keep.
Even though the Ibf is probobly the best belt in boxing now, I still rate the WBC and WBA higher then any other belts. The ibf and wbo were made in the 1980's :huh. The wbc and wba have been around for way longer.... plus they looks cooler :yep
i agree, elimination fights are the BIGGEST scam in the boxing. You have to pay to be in a elimator fight. Even if you win, theirs no guarentee your fighting for the belt LOL. And you may be put through multiple elimination fights, that you have to pay for(each time) and still get skipped over. :huh the goverment needs to start regulating this... I wish obama was a boxing fan :verysad
