interesting sidelight on his sparring partner in this video: Tommy Harrison.

He's the guy later in life who assumed Bob Satterfield's identity. The guy Samuel Jackson played in the movie.

 

In the film he's called Tommy Kincaid i'm sure. Or did they change his name for the film?

I always thought it was a 300 pound bag. Oh well, if Marciano could make 270 pounds of dead weight move, then imagine what he would do to a 250 pound HW today.

 

He said Tyson was the sharpest puncher. There is a big difference between hardest and sharpest.

 

I doubt Ketchel hit harder then Choynski look at these quotes.

Plus from what I've seen of the two fighters I believe Choynski would beat Ketchel he looks more skilled, far quicker, better footwork and more accurate.

 

Choynski faster than ketchel? Ketchel was considered faster than fitzsimmons in his prime, and ketchel has the faster hands than choynski.


On film, even in the worst footage available of ketchel, stanley still shows far more modern techniques than the bareknuckle like style of choynski

 

A retired Choynski looks good against Jeffries even if it is sparring. He is moving in and out of range showing quick hands good combo's and good footwork far better then any footage of Ketchel.

How would Johnson know? Fitzsimmons had an injured arm and was 45 when he fought Johnson, and Jeffries barely landed a punch on Johnson in their match, save for a busted lip. IMO he had no room to talk, he fought old white guys.

 

Combos? LOL what combos?

Not really. Choynski looks awful IMO, he stands straight up with his feet far apar(horrible blance) with his elbows not tucked in, his hands are straight out flailing away like a helpless little girl and he has no head movement or a high gaurd. Sure he has neat little footwork, but not much else on this clip.


Now Ketchel...Heres a guy who had a max schmeling type stance where he kept his right hand close to his cheek, chined tucked, and he leaned back putting weight on his back foot...much more modern. despite not having choynskis footwork, Ketchel caught off the ring very well...and had blazing fast hands(faster than joes)...and a jack dempsey like tiger aggresion... watch even in the opening of that clip how ketchel tears into papke( a underrated HOF) with a wicked 4 punch combo to the head and body. Stanley gets so underrated because of the lack of film of his best stuff....such a shame. Stanley has a better resume than choynski IMO, and has a much more modernly developed style. I think Ketchel knocks out choynski h2h. Ketchel knocks out a 180lb jack johnson too.



Stanley Ketchelss best knockouts are not on film, I suspect you would have a much higher opinion on him if they were.

The guy was a freak....he could run 15 miles and hit a 270lb bag....tough combo and lets face it he was one of the hardest punching heavyweights and Satterfield is mentioned up there also and he weighed 174-185 but he did not have Rockys chin or Stamina...neither did Shavers
