Bernard's win over Pavlik overrated?

Hopkins has Pavlik's number, and Pavlik was not the corpse some would have us believe that night. Was Pavlik 100%? Maybe not. Was Hopkins 100%? Maybe not. Either way, to be a Champion sometimes you have to fight through not feeling 100%. I'm sure Hopkins has done it, along with many others.

A forty-something went to work that night, and Pavlik, while maybe not being 100%, was no where near 50% or worse. He did more or less what he usually does, except that he couldn't find a target.

Edit: Though, we've had this debate before, and I'll opt out of rehashing it.

 

First, I am not saying that BHop's win is over rated. I've said just the opposite on many occasions.

Second, Old Man River was brilliant that night.

Third, No version of KP we've seen to date beats that version of Hopkins. I've also said that many times.

All I have ever said is that the illness and injury must be taken into account. Pavlik at 100% would put up a great fight, and at the end of the day, that would do more for Bernard's legacy.

no, because hopkins prime weight is 160. He just cant make it anymore at this age. The schooling at 160 would be the same

It's not overated, it was a great performance. If Pavlik wasn't comfortable going to 170 he wouldn't have done it. Hopkins had the nuts to fight him and schooled him in the fine art of boxing.

 

Very interesting. Not a Hopkins fan, it seems, and he goes to lengths to carry it out.

 

I am a KP fan but he seeemed to do ok against a guy that beat BHOP twice....now he is merely limited...that is what u do in boxing...bhop did it...he was a 4 to 1 underdog and he whipped KP...u have to give him credit

 

u ever think he wasn't comfortable but really wanted the money lol...i mean I am sure he would rather be at 160 but when u throw that money at someone they get comfy quick

 

thats a weak excuse, Pavlik was like 16 years younger than hopkins, should have beat him

 

Great performance from the old man. Easy fight to predict if you realise how good Calzaghe was.

It was a quality win. A dominant and inspired performance from the wily veteran. In no way was it overrated.

 

When Hauser wrote that article after the Trinidad fight, I e-mailed him to disagree. To his credit, he did respond, but I never bought his arguments that the delay in the fight affected Tito more than Hop, or that the 9/11 terrorist attacks had more of an emotional effect on Trinidad than they did on Bernard.
