Atlas to Work With Povetkin.....What you think?

I don't think this is a good idea for Povetkin. With all due respect to Atlas, I don't see them as a match. Povetkin doesn't need a new perspective at this point. He has looked impressive so far with the style he has been taught. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.

Has anybody taken a minute to remember that Povetkin is a well-schooled Eastern European fighter and not some lazy ass American who needs his trainer to get him into shape both mentally and physically? A fighter who isn't mentally weak might actually be a good fit for a Teddy Atlas because there won't be any mental gamesmanship necessary. Atlas knows the psychology of the sport so if anything, he can bring a more subjective ideology to the camp if he's anything more than a consultant to begin with. These Eastern Euros are hungry and motivated. They don't need babysitters.

 

I can think of a few performances from Eastern Euro heavyweights over recent years that suggest they're as capable of half-assing it as the next guy.

 

Atlas sees a chance to make some money. As a trainer, Atlas is over rated. However I think Povetkin still has an amateur style trainer. Atlas can teach him a few things about professional boxing. He'll find Povetkin to be a easy guy to work with.

 

Povetkin's big problem that he just adjusted his style for the more rounds pro boxing has, but didn't adjust the style to the pro game itself. It would've been much better to work with a professional trainer from day one, but no matter who trains Povetkin, he ain't gonna beat either Klitschkos.

Having Atlas is an interesting choice. Why not, let's see how that will work out.

You better ask somebody... LOL.... I have spoken to Shannon and Michael Moorer in the past and Teddy suffocates everyone he involves himself with. I was with Mike Grant in Las Vegas only 3 weeks ago and he told me that working with Teddy was one of the worse things he ever did to his life.. He was left demoralised and broken by the mans assault on Mikes confidence and motivation. Mike said he is half the man he once was and it was mostly down to Teddys constant put downs in and out of the gym , where he was questioned as to everything he did , be it driving his car , making breakfast or training. Teddy left Mike feeling exhausted by the whole ordeal and in need of in insurgeance of confidence and rebuilding. Grant still today finds it hard to find any serious form and looked a shell of the man who was ready to challenge Lennox lewis several years ago. All Atlas does is try to heighten his own profile at the expense of any fighters he takes charge of.. He is in many ways a mental bully who sucks the energy out of anyone he gets his hands on, on a cruisade to make everyone know who Teddy is... Sasha is more than well equipped without the need to employ this ****ing leech..

Wlad would hold his own in any era, he may not be the best but he would definatley hold his own, just because he isnt a yank doesnt mean he is **** and whenhe retires he will get his dues just like Lewis.

As for Atlas working with Povetkin, it could be good for Povetkin, although i still think it will end with a Wlad win.

 

Povetkins problem is that he does nothing great. You need something in the HW division to set you apart, and he doesn't have it.

He's a good fighter, but Fast Eddie Chambers is no Ali and he was beating Povetkin before losing focus and gassing.
