Duran beat Marcel and Kobayashi on the road to the title. Two quality wins for a young fighter on the road to the title.
Duran jumped the 140 division 4 the simple reason there was no fu*kin $$$ these guys fought 4 what ever was best in $$$$$, Duran would have crushed Cervates & then What!!!! Duran's backers wanted $$$$ hence move up & go 4 Cuevas hence hit 147, now this would have been the Biggest/Richest Latin showdown ov all time but the usual bull**** (Don King) + the cuevas crew could'nt sort it out. No disrespect but back in 70's/80's these guys fought 4 live pay:good There was no HBO/PPV back then, it was all Closed Circuit & thats if they were lucky enough 2 get picked, so please take into account the fact that they had 2 fight anyone, anytime, anywhere, forget all this boxing rec/modern day anyliysing, back then it was fight or no fu*kin food on the table albeit $10K or less. With all respect 2 the age group mouthing off but what they don't know about real life could fill a fu*kin book A very lucky generation 2 have PPv & the internet:yep
Agreed, Im 'a a newbie here & now i know that this is pay-back time from all the weeds i slapped around at school, but jeezus these f*ckin pricks are like herpies:-((
Whats your prob mate, I never saw Leanard/Hearns ruling his div for 7 years you mug, you're all stats, Duran never gave a crap in his 30's as long as he was paid & all the big boy's wanted 2 fight him, sez it all unless your'e young or blind, Overated? you ****in mug:fire Duran was a lightweight 4 **** sake, there's no comparison 2 Hearns, different Weight/age/generation you clown, but Duran still took-em all on did'nt he win or lose. If Leanard/hearns/hagler were lightweights & fought duran in his 70's prime he'd have murdered them all, if you think diff then i suggest you fu*k off back 2 following women's volleyball.
I'm going by what was said in the Hands of Stone biography by Christian Guidice. Eleta rejected that deal for a Cervantes fight @ 140, and other fights that Duran would've been a solid (or heavy) favorite in. HBO Boxing has been around since 1973. It just didn't reach the big, near monopolistic strangehold on American boxing until around the 90s.
**** off you uneducated freak of ESB.. you know what you are writing?atsch Do me a favour if your gonna make comments why dont you explain why Duran didnt cut it you ****ing Pac nutthugger....
Goddam son, how do you BREATHE with Duran's **** so far down your throat? The man is overrated. Vastly. Get over it.
His comp below WW wasn't all that, plenty of fighters with better resumes. He got KTFO by Hearns like it was nothing. His only really and truly outstanding win is the first SRL fight and he quit like a beeyotch in the rematch five months later, without it the only thing really exceptional about him is longevity. Benitez was better than Duran. The fact that he went up so far in weight just testifies to a big frame, so the **** what? De Jesus beat him at his best. Kobayashi lost a fight to a nobody right before Duran. There are about 40 dudes on Duran's resume with records like 0-0-2, extending thru damn near his whole career. LOL the mighty Duran, 64-1, lightweight champeen of the world, takes on TeH fEarED Ezuquek Obando, 0-3-0, a slight step down from the dreaded Bernardo Diaz, 1-4-0, his opponent four fights earlier LOL
