Greb embarrassed Dempsey with his speed for a couple of rounds when they sparred ,do you think he would survive 15 rds against the Mauler?

    Dempsey leads, Louis counter-punches.

Greb had in human stamina ,great chops and was very fast ,but because he never set himself his punch was not that heavy .Loughran and Tunney discovered the secret of beating Harry.Loughran got off first ,taking the play away from Greb , and Tunney fired straight punches up the middle.Greb told Tunney "you ruined me inside ,your'e too big and tough now I wont be fighting you again".Louis, with no need to worry about Harry's return fire would fire short hooks to his ribs and stop Harry from coming in ,after that he would tatoo him with his heavy jab before landing his meat axe right hand ,if it went 5 it would be an exercise in torture for the great Greb.

Greb was hardly a stationary fighter. Reports say Dempsey, who was far more dynamic with his feet than Louis was, had trouble sparring with Greb.

This does not suggest stand and trade slugger at all. Greb was described as hard to hit. One newspaper reporter said hitting Greb was like trying to bare hand a small cork in a strom at sea.

Since Greb fought well as a light heavy, had good defense, speed, skills, and a great chin, I think he could do rather well vs Louis.

You think a small guy trying to crowd a much bigger guy with accurate deadly power in either hand is a good idea?

    From 1-10 & 10 being the best chance I`ll give him a 1.

you honestly grabbed the words out of my mouth (or keyboard should it be?)

Even a hard spar is a long way off a hard fight

indeed, but surely you see this as a abd stylistic match up for a small pressure fighter against a big hitting counterpuncher

Instinctivley I would say that it was but in practice Greb seems to have adapted verry well to oponents who you should never trade with. You would think for example that Jack Dempsey was an awfull stylistic match for him.

I dont think that Greb was just a pure swarmer. He often stoof off and boxed with oponents when the situation dictatede it. The nearest comparison today would be sombody like Joe Calzaghe.

Whether he swarmed or boxed he seems to have always eaten up oponents who tried to fight him at long range. The people who beat him seem to have done it by not giving him room to set up his whirlwind attack.

In short I have uncertainties as to exactly how the stylistic dynamic would play out here. Film of Greb would of course help.

Your basing this on a rumoured sparring match and fights you've never seen. Greb was elite for his time but he never faced a 200+ half quality HW in the ring. We don't even know if he'd live with a Louis who was shrunk down to 168lbs with a 'honey i shrunk the kids' machine let alone the 200lb version.

We do know he said Tunney got too big for him and Louis was bigger and I don't rate Tunney as P4P better than Louis from what I've seen either, Conn actually looks slicker than Tunney

Jesus, some of you are seriously underestimating Harry Greb!
Louis was a class act but Greb was a one eyed freak of nature. Read any ex fighters opinion of Greb, look at what the likes of Tunney and Flowers say about him.
Greb is one of my ATG and p4p possibly the GOAT.
However...Joe Louis is a big ask. I put Louis as the winner over Tunney, therefore have to concede that Joe is too big and accurate for Harry. One of the only fighters in 100yrs that I could see beating Greb though.

His iron chin would get smashed to pieces vs Louis tho, no doubt.

His iron chin is not the issue. The issue is if Louis could hit him on it or tire out first ... I like Louis but it could be an amazing match up ..

Because Greb wasn't experienced, tricky or one of the fastest fighters ever. :good

Amazing what Arturo Godoy managed agianst Louis being awkward and slick right?

Thats hard to call without film :blood

Greb would get KO'd much the same as Goddoy, getting smashed with short uppercuts inside, except Goddoy was bigger/stronger and hence could soak more punnishment himself. Whats 167lb Greb going to do when Louis lands an uppercut inside, other than collapse?
