Are you out of your f*cking mind?

Maidana is a serious one punch knockout artist. It took 2 clean blows to open up a cut and cause a huge swelling on Ortiz' face. Victor was clearly hurt at the end of the 5th and at the beginning of the 6th, and Maidana unleashed hell on him, landing several shots to the head and a big left hook to the body. Ortiz's heart made him get up, but cut, swelling, badly hurt and pain in the body, his mind realized he's getting KTFO. The ref could've stopped the very point Ortiz, very green and untested in real battles, went down. Rather painful post-fight interview, and he looked hurt both physically and emotionally, but he also realized what mistakes he made. I really liked the sportsmanship congratulating Maidana right after the stoppage, and El Chino had a few good words for Ortiz too.

He's just 22, and GBP made a serious mistake rushing him and putting in vs. a REAL fighter. We warned you guys a golden smile and HBO hype doesn't win fights, but now when you are so disgraceful in disappointment:

Give young Ortiz a f*cking break, he's very talented, but got beat up by serious knockout artist.

Still can't deny that he had no desire to continue when he obviously could as he was still standing. People called Cotto who was clearly finished and had ZERO left a quitter in his loss yet this one isn't?

Just watched the fight for the second time. Upon further reflection, I think it is a bit too harsh to say Ortiz "quit." He was badly hurt and had taken a lot of bombs. He was very dazed in the corner after the 5th and didn't seem to be with it. He was not responding to his cornermen at all. He got hit with a lot of really hard shots in the 6th, badly opening the cut on his right eye and creating a massive swelling under the left eye. Yes, he mentally retired, but he probably had a right to do so given the overall cumulative punishment he took. That fight was a war.

if you want to justify it or not he still quitted

he waved his hands at the end of the fight to motion no more, and his post fight interview reaffirmed it.

Even Oscar is embaressed of what he saw and heard in the interview. Izzy and Rafa both must have rebuked him as a Mexican. (Even if he is from Oxford).

It's easy to call someone a quitter behind a PC, but it's a hell lot different taking a punch in the ring. How can you judge what Ortiz had left?

People sit down to watch TV for their own entertainment, jump on the bandwagon as soon as HBO starts the hype, and instead of admitting their own mistake of calling the hyped fighter the future of boxing, they're accusing a badly beat up, hurt and devastated 22-year old of quitting. :-(

To the Ortiz 'fans' who spoke a lot of nonsense before the fight: this is the time to show support to your fighter rather than call him a quitter. Boxing fans sometime are a disgrace to the sport.

I am not going to call him a quiter, I like the kid and he did the right thing by not continuing he could have been seriously hurt, nobody wants that.

I will say this it was more of a "quit" than Cotto's "quit".

What concerns me the most was his post fight interview. Besides that is was one hell of a fight.

He defo gave up, His will was broken.
Hit maidana with everything he had & coudn't put him away.
    (Defo let him get away)

    Bad game plan.
Could have easily took the boxing route against him, IMO.
But the Mexican in him decided to give the crowd something exciting to watch.
Dude is 22 years old, suffered a huge gash in his biggest fight thus far.

    He defo quit.
Maidana just wanted it more. Won't happen in a rematch.

I never ever supported anyone calling any fighter a quitter, not even Golota. Still in this case you have to admit he gave up as he openly admitted that after the fight, I'm not saying this to insult him or bash on him just the truth.

I gotta give you credit you called it and I disagreed. I did not think that Victor was going to fight such a stupid fight and Maidana can punch like a ton of bricks at the end of the 5th the fight was already over. He almost took hs head off with that right.

gone are the traditional divisions...the HW division and p4p are what matters now in boxing

boxers would be criticize if he stays as champion in one division for 5 years.

^^Can't deny that. He knew he was hurt & decided to take the "L" AkA the = to boxing blasphemy.

Ortiz couldn't handle the pressure of the night, De La Hoya might have rushed him too soon w/ the spotlight fight. That said Maidana is defo an average slugger who will get picked apart by the top guys.

Ortiz rematch should be the next move.
(If Ortiz has the heart for it)
