I don't think many boxing fans were really shocked by Maidana Ko, because every smartass, even Ortiz fans were saying before that Maidana is no walk in the park and he can Ko Ortiz, so he did it. Nothing special, it's boxing, everything can happen. But i was shocked by post-fight interview, Ortiz had hysterics, i mean hysterics it's very bad for his reputation...
He did good in fight, physically and technically he was better prepared for the fight than Maidana, but he overlooked Maidana, thought he is already done after 3'd kd, tried to ended him quick and gassed out. Ortiz was overlooking him and underestimated Maidana so he paid for this. It's fair. It's boxing.

I feel you Scar. My problem is with the guys/girls who jump off the bandwagon and call Ortiz a disgraceful quitter faster than they bought the hype as easily as Oscar bought The Ring magazine. When these silly 'fanboys' get a reality check, they always find a way to discredit the fighter rather than admit their OWN mistake. Where's the support? Why do I have to open the thread and show some respect to the 22-year old who got beaten up badly due to mismanagement when I rooted for the other fighter? If you want, you can say he gave up. But I'm glad he was in a position to realize he's about to get KFTO rather than go on and get stratched for the 'fanboys' respect. You could see at the beginning of the round he had nothing left. 30 secs later, badly hurt and barely got up from a knockdown, he did what the ref or the corner should've done, prevent risking his health in a situation where he had ZERO chance to survive.

People are sad when the Leavander Johnsons pass away and accusing the sport of brutality and lack of health control, but keep on bitching to 'go out on your shield you f*cking quitter' the very next day. What a disgrace.

Yep. Ortiz is a ****ing piece of ****. What a sickly interview that was after the fight. I initially believed he was just quitting when the fight was stopped, and I was blown away by that interview. "I don't deserve to get beat up like this". Maybe he should learn to box better rather than bang with a banger and get crushed? Or change occupations? For all the moaning he does about his parents leaving him, he apparently hasn't learned any grit. What a crybaby. I don't care to ever see him in the ring again after that pathetic interview.

"I'm not going out on my back for nobody". Big ****ing deal, **** off.

Not only his body language. I was not prepared to call him a quitter immediately after the stoppage, because I give every fighter the benefit of the doubt in those situations where they appear to have quit. The issue is that Ortiz OPENLY ADMITTED that he quit, and made a mockery of everyone. You could feel the crowd's confusion as he made the imbecilic remarks.

    ...end of discussion

whether you justify it ok for him to quit is one thing, cuzz at the end of the day it's just 1 opinion in the grand scheme of things...but what is an undeniable fact, is he did indeed give up

    thats not even debatable

Well, for one thing, he admitted to quitting immediately after the fight. So, he had more left but decided to die another day. Good for him, but that's called quitting.

Of course he quit. YOu can argue all day about whether or not it was justified but there is no denying that he did quit.

Great post mate. Your point cant really be argued with anything credible and without looking stupid and loosing all integrity.
The man was hurt badly and was sensible enough to get out before any damage was done.
Boxing is a dangerous sport and it only takes one punch too many to put you in a wheelchair.
Some fools on here are not happy unless you go home in a bodybag.
But then they dont get in the ring and get punched in the head for 6 rds.
    Great post mate.:good

So everytime Ortiz or any fighter ever finds themselves in a bit of danger they should just throw in the towel? This is a brutal sport and every fighter who gets in the ring knows what can happen in there. But they still do it. They dont run and hide or quit when **** gets too tough for them. They keep going. Its part of this bloody sport.

Cotto took a beating that night. No way was he gonna be able to beat Margo that night with only one round left. He wasnt gonna ko Margo. Ortiz had the firepower to stop Maidana, a guy who he already dropped 3 times before hand. He just flat out quit.
