It's a mess since Pavlik won the titles, at least Jermain was open to fight everyone when he was champion.
Well, as far as surprises go, this one carries less impact than Calderon doing a cannonball into the ocean. Sounded too good to be true from the start.
He's one dimensional but can bring exciting fights if he's in there against the right opponent. His fight with Miranda and Taylor were really exciting, the Zuniga fight was also good.
That is what I read so this has me puzzled. They gave him $2.5 to fight Lockett and won't put up more than $2 for Pavlik & Sturm? What two bigger fights can he have at 160 than Sturm and Abraham for unification? I guess HBO may want Abraham and/or Froch which would be fine with me. If Kelly beats Abraham, kiss Sturm and unification goodbye. Just watched AA's last fight. If he starts that slow against Kelly, who has a reach advantage and a hook to go with it, it won't last long.
Yeah he knocks them out in good fashion, his fights arent exactly boring but to me his style is horrible to watch. I just hate watching him for some reason.
Probably because you picture him in the ring with Duddy. Don't worry, Kelly's smaller stablemate took care of that.
HBO is getting smart about its purse offers. They've been rejecting more fights and opponents lately, forcing promoters either to bring in exciting opposition or take their shows somewhere else. Arum is killing the golden goose by having all these obscure PPVs. His PPVs don't have any marketing support, unlike HBO's, yet the cost nearly the same price to buy. We won't see the likes of Pavlik/Lockett on HBO anytime soon. They've woken up a bit, and ultimately that's good for the sport.
Don't hold your breath waiting for Pavlik to fight any of the euro champs. He will never go one the road.Too bad since his career had fallen off its rails since his loss to the ancient Hopkins. Kelly would be well served to win a fight against a good middlewieght or move up soon. His win over the frail Taylor is not what it was considering Taylor now looses to anyone with a pulse and a chin. The now exposed PavliaK needs to start building up his name with some ligit wins over his peers or his paydays are going down. Sturm at this point would both a good test and a boost for the damaged career of Pavlik. He should be abel to win this fight if he picks up his game to what it was before his very embaressing loss to the Taylor victim Hopkins.
HBO is as stupid as ever. They have a captive audence and will feed them what ever crap they want to. Look at the gate and tell me where the action is. HBO is the "B" team. In their wildest dreams they could never Hope to cover a fight in America with 60,000 paid asses in the seats. If Pavliak had a lick of sence he would dump the likes of MSG and Vegas for Germany and go make some money. At the same time he should tell HBO to put up or don't let the door hit them in the ass when they leave. When are these fighters going to realize boxing in the United States is boxing in the "B" leagues in both money and comp.
In my opinion if HBO fails to step up and pay a decent price for Pavlik/Sturm, they are insane. Here's why: It's my understanding that Abraham still has to deal with mandatory challenger Giovanni Lorenzo. I read that they will handle that in the fall. The proposed date for Pavlik/Sturm is October 3rd. This is very frustrating because once again we see an opportunity for a great double header, but no one seems to be talking about it. It makes perfect sense to put Abraham/Lorenzo, and Pavlik/Sturm on the same WCB card. Pavlik wins an interesting fight where he has to use some patience and skill. Arthur scores another highlight reel KO, and we're set for a big PPV showdown early next year. Why the **** can't ALL these people get their **** together.
