Duddy is pure pish mae I never rated him, and obviously Pavlik is better. I would rather watch Duddys head flying back and forward in the Smichet fight 100 times over than watch one Kelly Pavlik fight though. I'm not saying hes ****, far from it, I just don't like his style, personally.
Fair to say MW was a good bit deeper then, right? Winky, Miranda and Pavlik fighting to get a chance, AA and Sturm were around then too, and guys were hot at '54. Now not so much, as they've either moved up or what ever. Paul Williams I'm excited for.:yep
Any reasons on this? He was actually groomed to 'be exciting' and was coached early on to throw lots of punches to be a crowd pleaser. He is starting to box more now that he trains full time. You don't often seeing him throw 100 punches a round like he did early on. Picks his shots a little better and uses more movement. Actually toyed with Rubio moving head and upper body with a big grin on his face as Rubio was swinging and missing.
Felix Storm came to the U.S. and fought Oscar De La Hoya, losing 115-113. Many at ringside thought Sturm was robbed of his title. I think he could pose more problems for Pavlik than Abraham can. If Pavlik beats Arthur (and I think he probably will), then the best opponent left for Pavlik would be Sturm.
Every time I picture him fighting, I just see him throwing those long one-twos. And no there is no reason, as I said "for some reason". It's just personal preference, but to be fair I havn't seen him fight in ages.
Dumb post. The real money is based on TV. If European fighters could dictate their own terms, why did Calzaghe/Kessler openly grovel to HBO for money and then force the combatants to compete in the middle of the night? ________ Calzaghe-Kessler fight in limbo Friday, June 29, 2007 | Print Entry The super middleweight fight everyone wants to see most -- a unification match between undefeated champions Joe Calzaghe of Wales and Denmark's Mikkel Kessler -- is hanging by a thread. According to the Calzaghe camp, promoters Frank Warren and Mogens Palle have agreed to terms for the fight to happen Sept. 22 at London's O2 Arena. However, HBO does not have that date available, nor have the promoters and HBO agreed on the money for the fight. The promoters are seeking around $5 million. HBO wants the fight, but not at that steep price. Without an infusion of millions from an American TV network, the fight is doomed. HBO originally suggested that the fight take place in November. A member of the Calzaghe camp says HBO later suggested Sept. 22 when November wouldn't work for the promoters, but that date was no longer available after Warren and Palle struck their deal. The promoters, however, are willing to move the fight to a new date as long as they can agree on the money. "The fight is made but not signed until we know what the U.S. money is," a Calzaghe camp insider said. "All points are agreed to. [They] have been for three weeks. The fight is made and the ball is with HBO." HBO's exclusive 10-day negotiating window to lock down the fight expired Thursday, but after a conference call between Ross Greenburg, president of HBO Sports, Warren and Jay Larkin, Warren's American adviser, they agreed to continue talking. However, Warren is free to shop the fight to Showtime, where Calzaghe has fought many times, including his defining win against Jeff Lacy, or any other network. Showtime, however, is a long shot given the prohibitive cost of the fight and the fact that the network has no plans for boxing on Sept. 22. It is working on another card for Sept. 29 and has the Oleg Maskaev-Samuel Peter heavyweight title bout scheduled for Oct. 6. HBO still hopes to come to an agreement for the one meaningful fight in the 168-pound division. "It's a fight that we really like," HBO's Kery Davis told ESPN.com. "It's a terrific fight for the sport and we're hoping something can be worked out."
Paul Williams has a great chance to beat Pavlik in my opinion as he constantly moves and if you can constantly move against Pavlik he is forced to move with you and that's where his activity drops big time because he needs to stand still to unload with his big bombs. As far as entertainment is concerned an Abraham fight has FOTY written all over it in my opinion and the best fight with Pavlik.
Could be right, but My Opinion is that PW looked better than he ever has (physically) @ 160 vs. Winky. He actually did NOT look like Skeletor then. He's TOO skinny @ the lower weights for my eyes, but he wins either way, so...
Fair enough. If you get a chance to watch the Rubio fight, do so. He got criticized for being different in that fight. atsch Before the fight his team told us he would 'box more' and even manged to work the word "yoga" into his approach to the Rubio fight. OK. "Wasted" enough time today. I've got things I just have to get done.
I too (like every other breathing boxing fan) want Pavlik vs. AA. IMO, Pavlik vs. PW will be a BIG DADDY in a year or so...and on top of the things you listed there, PW's south paw stance could make it quite interesting too. I'm greedy, I want both.
I think HBO is stung by all the criticism directed at it for its weak matchups, and Pavlik is being used as an example. It's also a shot at Arum. HBO wants three fights: 1) Pavlik vs. Abraham, 2) Pavlik vs. Williams or 3) Pavlik vs. an elite SMW. I don't blame them for passing on Abraham/Lorenzo or Pavlik/Sturm.
What's sad is that Jermain was ready to give Abraham the shot he earned after the first Miranda fight but the injury/surgery forced Abraham out of it and Miranda got a second shot but had to beat Pavlik and the rest is history. People tend to ignore/forget that for some unknown reason. Abraham was also FORCED by the IBF to take an easy fight when he returns before charging in against the top guy. Pavlik won and we all know what happened after that, pathetic title defenses and a failed attempt at getting at Calzaghe by trying to impress against Hopkins. Beating Rubio doesn't put him back on the map, he needs a major win and an Abraham fight guarantees that as both styles will definitely bring an exciting war type of fight.
That's why immediately after the AA fight he was begging to come to the states! It was said best Pavlik vs. Sturm and Lorenzo vs. AA We know it won't happen but it would be awesome! Especially in A.C. so the Y-town cew can travel in full effect! By the way it's spelled PAVLIK!
