How does Max get off questioning a fighters toughens when he has never been in the ring and has a job based on nepotism rather than ability, skill or any other deserving quality? Not bad enough to get his brother hammered to death defending a cheap-shot artist, now he runs his mouth about Ortiz. Would he prefer Ortiz be brain damaged just to live up to Max's standard for toughness? Max is a gutless mutt who I hope gets knocked out next time he questions anyones toughness. Talentless, scumbag, cockroach, bug-eyed manequin that he is.
I didn't think he was questioning his toughness as much as pointing out the reality that to be viewed as a great a fighter has to battle through even serious adversity. The reactions on this board should tell you that is correct. It's hard to shake the label of quitter, even if the label is unjustified in any reasonable sense (which he also pointed out).
Max had every right to criticize Ortiz for quiting. This is boxing, you are going to be hit, cut and hurt. You get payed good money to entertain. I respect that Ortiz wants to speak normal when he's older but if he wants to do that then he shouldn't be boxing and risking himself like that.
Was it Kellerman who was downplaying Arturo Gatti as a possible HOF fighter? I remember hearing it from one of the commentry team on HBO when Gatti was getting clubbed like a seal by Alfonso Gomez (a fighter who Gatti would have KTFO in his prime) who judges a fighters credentials to enter the HOF in his last fight when he's all washed up and in the round he's taking a beating!?!?!?!?
No Kellerman has no right to criticize Ortiz. He can point it out but he's nobody to be criticizing for that particular thing. With that said... I don't remember hearing anything really bad from him though.
I give Max much props for asking the questions that matter instead of trying to make excuses for why their house fighter lost. Everything he stated and asked was in line with reality of the situation and not degrading to Ortiz. Ortiz gave up. You can't give up as a fighter if you wan't to be great.
I give Max props for his professionalism.. I was very impressed last night. It's his job to be the voice of the fans and he was just being objective.. That's his job. I dont know why Max has so many haters. I think he's great.
Very true, Finito. He said what everyone was thinking and he spoke to Ortiz in a respectful, professional way. The points he raised were valid. He did a good job last night. He also made a good point prefight that Ortiz would not be able to break Maidana's will and that he would need to separate him from his senses. Max was definitely right about that, as the two knockdowns that Maidana suffered in the third would have broken the will of a lot of guys.
If Kellerman is great, then Merchant is god. Kellerman has his good nights and he has his horrible nights. He must know fans are talking **** about him and he tries to do his best.
Years ago Kellerman really got on my nerves, but nowadays i think he really does a good job. Who cares if he never was in the ring, he is a real fan of the sport. And what he says is mostly my own opinion about the fight. I wish in germany would be such commentators who are fans of the sport.
What the hell did he say that was so bad. Ortiz quit. He DID. By doing so, he preserved his health, but boxing is a sport where you have to give up your body in order to win. "In boxing to be great, more is required from you than in any other sport. More is required than is really reasonable."
Would this sort of reaction have been provoked if it was Merchant who was on duty and came out with those comments last night? I don't think so somehow.
You're right. Merchant probably would have been less respectful to Ortiz than Max was. And Merchant has also never stepped in the ring. I think Max at least has done some sparring.
I'm sorry but how the **** does he have "no right"? He's a commentator, a journalist. If he feels that he recognizes a flaw in a fighter he's commenting on, he's supposed to talk about that.
