Part of the Pavlik/Abraham to me is that they both really need each other. Both guys are vulnerable to guys who can present angles and counter, so fighting someone directly in front of them is the way to go.

Even one of the non-elites, such as Andre Ward, would be a big problem for either of them at 168.

As for last night, Oral was able to counter Abraham way too easily. He landed right hands repeatedly and also landed a couple of nice left hooks. Oral isn't fast and can't break an egg, yet he still managed to get Abraham's attention on a couple occasions.

Both guys are lucky that even the 2005 version of Hopkins is out of the division, because there's no way either could beat a fighter like that.

There was one instance where he tried to close the show early and started his wild ass **** and couldn't do it. Even though he was taller, Oral gave up 1/2 inch reach. Kelly would have easily hooked behind the high guard and with power, IMHO. He said he waited for Oral's output to go down before he opened up. WTF is he going to do against Pavlik who throws more punches than Oral and doesn't drop in output after 3 rounds? :think

Oral gave Abraham a tough time. He made Abraham think a couple of times with a couple of punches he landed. It wasn't as one sided as people think. Oral won the first three rounds easily and a lot of the rounds were very competitive.

Oh yeah, Abraham was countered a few times, especially when he landed wide 1-2s to the body. But in the end the body punches AA promised before the fight broke Oral down. Abraham BTW pointed to Oral's corner after the 1st and 2nd KDs in the 10th asking them to save their man, but they let Mahir go down two more times before they finally pulled him out. Referee Earl Brown definitely wasn't on top, he should've stopped waaay earlier.

    I had it 87 - 83 for AA going into the 10th (third round 10 - 10)

(Oral got lucky in the 5th when the ref called a legit knockdown a slip)

If "tough time" means Abraham covering up and letting Oral get in shots, then yeah, Oral gave Abaham a "tough time." I give credit to Oral for showing solid boxing skills, throwing crisp combinations and some good counter shots along with maintaining good distance but anytime Abraham let his hands go, Oral was a boy fighting a man. Oral didn't get KD 5 times for no reason. He had no power to supress Abraham's attack and Abraham's power was overwhelming.

Abraham fights in spurts. The time he's inactive, his opponents get in shots.

Right, but what happens against an elite boxer/mover/counterpuncher? There is no one on Abraham's record even close to fitting that description, and there are a handful of guys at 168 who probably would be favored over him.

Same for Pavlik, which is why Pavlik/Abraham is just another big fight at 168, whereas at 160 it's THE fight.

Both AA and Pavlik proved be too classy for their challengers, but I certainly had more fun watching Oral vs AA than Pavlik vs Rubio.I dont say anything about their skills or who would win a fight between the undisputed two best middle weight fighters, but in terms of entertainment Oral vs AA was the better fight of this"pair".

  9. I think Oral would whoop Rubios ass.
