Anyone else think the result of the virtual fight between Ali and Marciano was BS?

Mariciano never faced anyone like Ali, while Ali had beaten multiple HOF fighters, I just don't get how most people see Marciano winning this mythical matchup.

Since it happend in 1969 (the virtual matchup) i'd say some form of racism was at work (oh yes I said the R work :p)

Anyone else? Umm, maybe more like everyone else. Don't know if any racism was involved, i wasn't born at the time. But i've never heard of a hardcore boxing fan who credited the "computer fight" with any real legitimacy.

Also Marciano died 3 week after filming wrapped........maybe that had something to do with the outcome

I remember reading or hearing somewhere - but I can't remember where - that they actually filmed different endings and showed the "correct" endings to the "correct" people... people who liked Ali would see him win, those who liked Marciano would see him win.

If that is true (I officially treat it as a rumor), then my guess is the one with Marciano winning happens to be the only one that stayed around and can be seen today.

I agree it was BS. Marciano would have sparked him way earlier than that

A good way to test how accurate these computer things are is to do the exact same thing numerous times with fighters that are going to have a fight then compare both, Im pretty sure they would be way off a lot of the time.

Ofc it was bull****. Technically Marciano was at least one division below Ali you could see the size difference.

H2H Ali wins but were they the same size though Marciano would obliterate Ali.

I never saw it, Marciano was a warrior with the heart of Jormungand, but he would never, and I mean NEVER beat Ali at his best. EVER

I have read that Marciano took it very seriously and got in good shape because he wanted to look good for the cameras and be taken seriously and not embarrassed while Ali came in unprepared and not in top shape because obviously it wasnt a real fight.

The rumor is that they were to go hard on the body shots but pull back on the head shots, Ali supposedly flicked off Marciano's hairpiece with a jab and pissed him off so marciano gave him some good body shots. Ali said marciano was very strong and would have been a very hard fight, especially as the guy he was in with was 40 something and retired.

But that is just rumor from memory and a lot of guys are always going to show a lot of respect for the previous generation. I think head to head Ali beats him easy.

A computer is always going to favour an undefeated fighter. The computer has no loss against which to measure the person. In other words, Marciano has never lost, so how can the computer figure into its calculations that he would lose? That's how computers work. Check the elo system in Chess for ratings. If a player hasn't lost yet in a tournament, it is near impossible to actually get an accurate rating for performance. Until a person loses, they are basically on an infinite scale to a computer.

Yes it was BS... no way Marciano could've tracked Ali down. Muhammad would've picked him apart with ease on the way in.
