I am frothing at the mouth at the prospect of seeing King Kong and the Raging Bull tussle as I have no doubt it will be a brutal and unrelenting war but the question must be asked: Why is this fight going down in Sunrise, Florida? Is Sunrise a hot spot for Ghanians or Aremenian Australains or something! Don't get me wrong, I love Florida but this bout will struggle to draw 500 people in what is a fairly huge venue! Talk about a non existent atmosphere at what may well be a FOTY candidate! Surely New York or LA would have been better options! Make no mistake, I will be there but I have a feeling I will have the Bank Atlantic Centre to myself!
Nice locale but who will show! To my knowledge not a huge boxing town and no identifiable fan base there for either Agbeko or Darchiniyan! Recipie for dsaster in terms of attendance and atmosphere!
The thread starter believes that a fight of this magnitude deserves to be in a bigger more tremendous locale. Vegas or New York are much larger for a fight than Florida...and then he worries that the fight will struggle to draw a big crowd. Personally while I see his argument, I think it's good for boxing that big(ger) fights start moving around more. Vegas is amazingly over saturated these days with the "Big fights" and I don't know if Vic can bring a big crowd with him to NY.
Not heard much of a place named Sunrise, Florida... might as well do this fight in Sunset, California? .
I recall HBO broadcasts from Florida where the ultimate purists' boxer - Winky god damn Wright - drew a nice enough looking crowd. An infamous wild man like Vic? Got to believe they're moving tickets.
It's the same town and venue where Campbell-Funeka, Martinez-Cintron, and Angulo-Rivera took place earlier this year. I remember Don King having a 2 for 1 deal on tickets.
I know the cuban fighters draw big crowds in Florida. It'll be interesting to see whether a stacked card and weeks of advertising by Showtime can combine to create a nice crowd for what should be a barnburner.
My bad... I can understand with Campbell since I think he's from Florida and also with Puerto Rican Cintron... but Armenian/Aussie Darchinyan vs. Ghanian/NewYorker Agbeko in Florida? Not really protesting but just wondering... .
