I really like Kelly Pavlik and AA. I haven't really followed the career of these two fighters closely so I don't know what politics is involved in preventing a bout between them. Can anybody explain to me clearly and succinctly what's stopping it? Boxing looks stupid and ill-sanctioned (as befitting its image) when there are two titans in a division that keep racking up wins against non-entities rather than fight each other. Is this fight likely to happen?

No matter what . . . the path of these two fighters will cross . . . it may not be at middle weight or immediately but they will surely fight each other.

One thing I've noticed is that fighters in the 'higher' weight divisions, like, MW and up seem to be able to get away with avoiding moreso that in the lower ranks. The higher divisions are characterised by one o two fighters at the A level and then a big gap in class back to the rest of the field. The lower divisions have a deep talent pool, so outright paper champions are rare.

i know we can debate this till the cows come home....but i truly blame pavlik and arum for not making this fight happen.....abraham has stayed at middleweight just to tryed to get kelly.....and has talked about wanting a fight with pavlik for years......

Why would Arum not want to make the fight?

Pavlik needs to step it up again. If he doesn't fight AA i hope he fights Mundine.

because his cash cow would be shot.

pavliks already damaged goods after the bhop fight, but im sure arum thinks he can milk a bit more out of him. putting him in against abraham and having him koed would be the end of it though.

Do you think AA really wants to fight Pavlik?

Also, Kelly himself seems willing to fight the best, i.e. rematch with Taylor and talking Hopkins at short notice.

Disagree. MW and to a degree but less so than used to be, HW, have weak matchups being made because they are weak divisions, but 168, 175 and 200 all have very good fights being made. The top guys in those divisions, with the exception of Bernard Hopkins at 175/200, who may or may not be retired at this point, are all fighting each other, for the most part.

Ehhhhh, I'l pretty much agree with this, although not ALL lower weight divisions are extremely solid at this point, 115 and 130 being the first ones I think of off the top of my head.

Kessler, Dawson, Sturm, Pavlik, Abraham, Mundine, Klits, Valulev. Unchallenged big names that all seem fairly unchallenged.. I can excuse the Klits because there nobody to rival them..Dawson seems to be cornered in contractual obligations..the rest of them..to the birds!

i really dont understand how either can say its mandatorys stopping the fight. Just tell them you will give up the belts.

If they have to vacate the fight still happens for the Ring title and everyone is still intrested.

If the WBC, WBO, IBF let them have one more fight then they get a nice chunk of cash and Pavlik and Abraham both move up to 168lbs.

    Where is the issue???

:goodAbraham is starving himself daily just to make this fight. Arum would cut off Pavlik's arm to get him down to junior middle to avoid it

Why did Arum let Pallik fight Hopkins then?
