Yeah because Pavlik would have been a prime fighter :)

I dont know but in all honesty it seems Calzaghe's mind was made up before the Jones fight which is why he took the easy way out. He obviously didn't want to do it no more and figured he'd take the easy fight for the most money and walk.If he wasn't interested in training then fair play to him

:goodI was gutted when JC chose RJJ for his final fight. Had JC taken the fight with Pavlik- and did what B-Hop did to him- then what a perfect way to bow out of the sport. An awful shame we were robbed of that prospect, though. Honestly, I still maintan that JC got out of the sport at the best time.

Seemed that way in the 24/7 to me, Joe didn't seem to be pushing himself at all like you see in most 24/7's. I think Joe had grown tired of the respect that was never coming and just being a little sick of boxing in general (madness I know!) had decided it was time to call it a day. I think otherwise he would have fought Froch already, a champion which style would greatly compliment Joe where he could easily walk to a UD imo. I think like most, Calzaghe is done with boxing and sadly for good.

Evil and Losfer, whilst I dont rate Calzaghe as highly as yourself I genuinely agree that if his heart wasn't in in there was no point fighting on. If I were in his shoes and a fight against a big name like RJJ (who was well past his prime and easily beatable) arose, I would definately take it.

well look at jeff lacy......lacy was highly regarded at the time Joe fought him.....and now everybody has seen lacy more and more and has concluded he was clearly overrated, the version that fought calzaghe.....

It doesnt matter to Joe if pavlik would have beat hopkins......calzaghe is primarily concerned with the magic "O" he has....even though his resume is mostly garbage IMO for a guy who is 46-0 he fought big names that were past there primes....eubank, hopkins, and jones.....and fought a overrated lacy.......and his best win kessler is not looking so hot do to kessler staying in-active........

Joe could carless.....his "0" is what he thinks historywill judge him by, same with mayweather....

Yep. You've gotta remember JC saying as soon as he finished the fight with Kessler that he wanted to make some megabucks and then bow out of the sport, though. With that in mind, his heart was obviously not in the sport anymore to be saying things like that. Personally, I dont think B-Hop is shot but the RJJ fight was a bit of a cop-out on JC's part, IMO. Deep down JC knew that something would have to go massively wrong for him to have lost that fight.

Yep spot on. Like Evil said he didn't really seem to have that intensity during the build up to the fight and was more interested in trying to promote the fight and show off than training. When Calzaghe used to train, i'll give him his dues he trained hard and he did it away from the spotlight. For this he was flying around the world (must have caught the bug :)) and doing sessions of the most ridiculous shadow boxing known to man, whereas normally he'd be at it hard in Newbridge. Blatantly obvious it would be his last fight and will remain to be just that. Think he'll knock the promoting on the head too now considering he made a loss on his first show and cancelled his second due to the current ecomic climate. Add this to the fact that he may not get his money from Franky boy for a while seems to settle things for me

To be honest he is not likely to get any money off of Frank, and this is the reason I think that we will see him in the ring again.

Got in on a piece of advertising, though! Remember Pony and Lotto as well? JC's keeping it old school with his haircut and sponsors!
