The first thing Floyd said to Emanuel after their fight:

    "You're one tough mother****er"

    True story.

Didn't he also say circa the JLC rematch that Augustus had given him his toughest test to that point in his career, which some questioneda as a disingenuous dig at Castillo but some insisted was legit (actually, even through the present I'd say it's arguably still a toss-up between the two)?

Augustus, while outclassed by Floyd, was giving Floyd hell. He WAS landing punches on Floyd. As a matter of fact, I'd say it's the most touched up Floyd had ever been; except for maybe the first JLC fight. Floyd finally got around to letting Emanuel have it though, and I believe it started with a sneaky left hook to the body which hurt Emanuel quite a bit.

That 9th round is a new york minute of absolute savagery.

    Emanuel Burton overrated?

He gets lots of love on these boards, not because of his prancing around but because he's a born entertainer with skills and heart - and he's never in a dull fight.

Check out his two-fisted punch on Ray Olivera, pretty much sums him up!

i think defence and being so square on was always his problem. had a great left hook to the body. and decent workrate when he was mentally there. always tough unless he was in that wiered cant be ****ed mode he turned to.

he could of nabbed a title shot but winnign would of been a different thing

The way YA comes back to dominate the tenth after being forced to take a knee in the ninth round is breathtaking...nearly a 10-8 round in and of itself...

Don't tell me these two are equals in sheer skill. :bart

Ward vs Augutus was a inside manual.

I don't feel like taking anything away from Mickey (loved him also), but given EA's skillset, I think he went toe to toe for as long as he did simply for the fans, and to see if he could beat Ward at his own game. Think the 12th of Morales - Pacquiao I, for TEN rounds.

It's the kind of thing only a guy with his record would even dream of doing, but in the end, it's why we love him.

Emanuel Augustus is legend. And personally I don't see how people can say he's overrated. I've never once seen someone suggest EA is P4P or anything like that and I didn't think that a fighter having alot of fans makes him overrated but anyways....
I remember the first time I saw him fight, it was against Courtney Burton, I'm sure you all remember the fight, the one when Courtneys team had obviously paid off two of the judges and the ref. What I saw that night was art.
    :thumbsup for the drunken master.
